Anyone else in working in the health service having a massive panic about going back to work?

I know there are thousands of us in the same boat, but I'm due to return to work (nurse) tomorrow after a couple of days off and feel terrified. DH works in the NHS so is also working. DC will be in school, as our usual option for childcare is grandparents, and really don't want to put them at risk. Feel terrible for leaving them all day and putting them at risk. Also have now been redeployed to inpatient care when I've been community for the past 16 years. Feel well out of my depth. Is anyone else in a similar situation? How are you coping with it all?

No, normal life makes me panic, when there is a crisis I snap out of it and I,m great.
Its things like call centres, boredom and rude people that ruin my life. Give me an emergency and the adrenalin has me on a high for weeks.

Glad I didn’t kill the thread with my rage and bitterness.
MoreFlowers to all.

Don't worry Duchess had a flush of rage myself at the NMC email earlier..... ooh! a three month postponement on revalidations? You are generous! 🙄

I am a nurse and I honestly feel better at work than I do at home - I just get on with it instead of worrying and brooding. I've been sent to the covid ward and whilst it's no picnic, at least we know what we are dealing with and are (sort of) protected. I've no illusions that it's not going to get a lot worse, but personally I always feel better when I can do something practical. I would genuinely go mad at home.

Honestly, it won't be as bad as you think, although a steep learning curve no doubt for those of you not used to working on wards.

I work in admin support in the NHS and our managers are insisting we are key workers and need to be in, not providing us with the means to work from home. I'm starting to get pretty fed up it tbh.

IpeartreeI · 24/03/2020 13:24

I'm a nurse in a care home and I'm working my notice atm. I doubt we'll have proper PPE and I've been on annual leave so don't know what I'm going back to. If it hits our place it will be a total disaster as the people I care for won't be candidates for hospital admission. I care for several minimally conscious people for example.

I'm sleeping separately from dh and will have to stay away from the others at home until I've left and then quarantined.

ohcarriemathison · 24/03/2020 15:19

@IpeartreeI have you handed your notice in due to this situation ?

WindFlower92 · 24/03/2020 15:24

Just hopping on to say thankyou to you all, I can't imagine how scary it must be! Flowers I'm scared enough about going to work in 2 weeks and I'm a teacher. Enjoy the times you're not in work if you can!

divafever99 · 24/03/2020 20:55

Thank you wind, and thank you to all the teachers and TAs who are still working. To be honest I've been there all day today and don't feel any better! Just feel miserable too that I can't even plan to go anywhere nice on my days off now either! Thinking of you all. We will get through this!

Survived my first day. Shall keep my rage to myself for the sake of everyone’s morale.
💐 to everyone again.

I am struggling massively with anxiety. I’ve been having therapy for over a year but I’m now on antidepressants and my therapist has said I should not be going into work because of the state of my mental health. But - I feel so guilty. I’m not front line but will no doubt be excepted to cover. I don’t know what to do, and the anxiety feels all consuming and totally overwhelming. My head just can’t think straight, and I am in a massive mess Sad

divafever99 · 28/03/2020 08:19

Buzz you really don't sound well enough to work right now. Please look after yourself Thanks

I'm a healthcare assistant on the bank but I'm off atm due to daughter having a cough? coronavirus symptoms, but I'm really worried to go back. My partner is a delivery driver so once this 14 days has passed we will both be working and be exposed daily. But we have no option, he is self employed (less than 1 year so not protected by the gov scheme) and I'm on a zero hour contract so we xant get by without working

Scrub nurse in private sector, hospital closed (we only do elective surgery, joints etc) Wednesday, we are only all due back in Monday. Prior to that for about a week most surgery was getting cancelled for various reasons anyway.

Day of training Monday then at some point next week start receiving NHS patients. As of yet unconfirmed whether palliative patients, palliative patients with Covid-19 or elderly medical.

ODPs are being sent to work on the ward but this is not what they are trained to do, some scrub nurses have not worked outside of theatre for years.

It is an incredibly scary time. I used to do nights on a discharge to assess unit so happily signed myself up for nights (will likely quickly regret this)

Good luck to everyone! We will get through it, just maybe with a lot of tears and wine!
