How can you social distance in a lift?

My dad is in the vulnerable category and will be told to stay at home for 12 weeks. He will have to go to hospital due to his condition on a regular basis. He lives on the 12th floor and will have to get in the lift - which will be impossible to stay 6ft away from someone. I'm sure this will apply to many people in the same situation so just wondered if anyone had any advice for this. If any! Perhaps councils should be putting notices up to ensure one person at a time travels in lifts ?

The only thing you can do is not get in the lift if someone else is in there.

But he may be in the lift and people not on board with social distancing will likely get in. Would it be unreasonable for a notice to be put up explaining one in at a time. Maybe I should ask the council, just thought this might be a problem other people are facing.

Get him to at least wear gloves (wash them afterwards) for touching the buttons on the lift and use hand gel after taking them off, and dont get in the lift while anyone is in it. Could he cover his face with a scarf and wear a hat? (not sure that'll help but may be worth a try)

Thank you. Yeah, I guess this will have to do for now. Horrible that he can't avoid contact though.

This is what some places are advising

It's not unreasonable to put a sign up. Unfortunately the pillocks who are not on board with social distancing are not going to let a sign stop them.

All you can do is ask/tell them 'I'm vulnerable and self isolating, please wait for the next lift' or stand centrally and cough violently when the doors open and scare them away.

He needs to wear a giant cardboard circle that forces people to stay at least 1m away. Like this guy.

Like one of those cones a dog wears, but bigger and round his waist!

Lol. I will recommend the doughnut ring! Failing that coughing fit . And maybe a sign too . Thank you for suggestions Grin
