So unfair that so many people are treating this situation like a holiday

Sorry, this is a bit of a rant, but I am getting the impression lots of people are treating this situation as a holiday. They are Expecting money from the government but not keeping their part of the bargain, which is to socially isolate. Instead the are planning trips in the U.K., having parties, picnics, group exercise classes, etc.

I don’t think anyone I know is doing what I am doing, which is staying at home and popping out to a local shop or today for a very short walk while keeping my distance. What is the point of school, etc closing if people are organising group meet ups outside of work and school. Even a local sports club has cancelled official training sessions but is doing “unofficial” ones, involving the same people.

Yanbu. Hopefully in the next couple of days the seriousness will sink in, and people will stop being dicks.

Wolfiefan · 22/03/2020 17:00

Idiots. We will end up with total lockdown at this rate. DH out when essential for food or medication.
That’s it.

Hugglespuffed · 22/03/2020 17:04

I totally agree. I drove to a beach today that is miles long and generally pretty quiet. But those who were there were lots of groups of people (grandparents, parents, children, aunties at a guess) and I couldn't help but think WHY. Unless they all live in the same house which I'm sure not all of them did then what bit of social distancing don't they understand?

I'd like to add that I went on my own and I kept well clear of everyone. I don't think I was closer than about 10 metres to anyone!

tillytoodles1 · 22/03/2020 17:05

I'm certainly taking it seriously, this is my eighth day on lockdown. Apart from seeing my two kids from about three yards away, I haven't left my home. I stand in the doorway and they stay outside at a distance. I'm on my own and it's driving me nuts, I live in a flat so not even a garden to sit in.

Not everyone is treating this like a holiday. Children need excerise and I have taken my dc out, but at 6am and we walked around the park. Only saw two people and we kept a good distance (we actually crossed the road to avoid them). Other people are able to listen, maybe the government should issue fines to punish offenders instead of everyone else alongside them. Selfish people care more about their pockets than other humans. Local governments can enforce this. I seen it when they introduced the fine for littering.

I've noticed our usually deserted countryside dog walks are suddenly rather busy. Hmm

Today DDog helped me deliver shopping to a few quarantined people. She is such an adolescent arse that nobody could get with 2m if they tried. Town was no busier than the woods Shock

My parents are both over seventy with under lying health conditions. They live in a rural village mostly populated by people in the vulnerable category and they are seeing a massive influx of selfish Twats rocking up in their cars to go for walks. It is causing a lot of distress to the people who live there and it is just so selfish. My dad tried to take his dog for a short walk from his house at 8.30 this morning and had to turn back because of the amount of large groups of people (including families with openly coughing children! ) blocking the paths.
The government must do something about this.

The behaviour of cyclists in Richmond park yesterday was disgusting. Hanging around in huge groups, close together at the coffee places. Plus all the spitting that idiot cyclists there do all the time anyway. Royal parks should ban bikes at the moment.

playthestation · 23/03/2020 11:57

A combination of arrogance and ignorance.

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 23/03/2020 11:57

Because of The Stupid we will soon be in lockdown.

notacooldad · 23/03/2020 12:01

The police apparently had to have a word with the bikers at Devils Bridge at Kirkby Lonsdale yesterday. Apparently it was just another regular Sunday stop off and meet up for many.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 23/03/2020 12:07

What is the point of school, etc closing if people are organising group meet ups outside of work and school.

Quite. This is my whole objection to current measures. We should either:

Let the healthy get on with their lives while the elderly and vulnerable take a hit for the team by Self Isolating

Or

Have a total hard lockdown.

This 'bit of both' makes the ensuing economic depression will we experience hard to justify. It's obvious that people cannot be trusted to comply with the rules. The recent panic buying and people mobbing the shopping hours reserved for keyworkers proves this. People are selfish.

So shut things down hard. Curfews, hefty fines. Do it now.

It's making me really angry. Although it's lovely to have the sun shining and means I, and many others, feel a bit more cheerful, it means people are going out. If it were pouring I am sure most places would be empty.

I had already decided I was staying at home for at least a few weeks. I don't work and have no real need to go out. I don't go out that much anyway except to walk my dogs. We have a big garden and they can get their exercise running round that.

DH is self employed and was told when he rang about claiming UC or whatever that he was not entitled to anything because I have my pension. I don't actually get my first pension payment until next month and it's only the state one.

Anyway he has now decided to stay home to. We have loads of food, dog food, toilet rolls plus paint and wallpaper to finally get on with decorating, loads of unwatched dvd's, loads of unread books. We will also garden and I hope to teach myself to crochet.

We think the only way to avoid getting it is to stay home. I do realise not everyone can do that

lynsey91 · 23/03/2020 12:18

I meant to say we have decided if we don't have the money to pay the electric bill or council tax then tough, they won't be paid. Not risking our lives in order to pay bills

ShellsAndSunrises · 23/03/2020 12:19

I genuinely think it was better before schools were closed. Now everyone is treating it like the summer holidays.

Lordfrontpaw · 23/03/2020 12:20

The park was mobbed yesterday - more like a bank holiday. We walk through to go to the shops and were really shocked at how many people were out having picnics, even parties, tourists wandering about (but I guess everything else was shut), loads more people with their kids than usual. I don’t know if they were just getting in the last bit of fresh air before a lockdown or what, but it was really busy!
