Self Isolating

If I get a letter to say I have to self isolate due to health conditions, would it be stupid of me to get my teenage daughter to go out for essentials. Would I have to get a friend to get us stuff and drop it outside. Please bear in mind that I don't have symptoms.
WombatStewForTea · 22/03/2020 15:49
If you're one of the very few that gets that letter it's because you're extremely high risk. Your daughter (if only social distancing rather than shielding like you will be) can go out BUT the guidance says you should live completely apart under the same roof. Have you read the guidance? None of us know your medical history - are you likely to be included?

You need to stay indoors
You need to work out if you need to isolate yourself from your DD - how much exposure has she had to the outside world in last 14 days?
If you think your DD will abide by stringent social distancing when out, refrain from using public transport, keep away from people etc, then going out for food meds and anything else truly essential (and washing well on return) is probably not unduly risky.
But getting everything brought to you, and she be the one to take it in, is even safer
We really could go with priority booking for online supermarket delivery slots for this group

..... of exceptionally vulnerable people, who are facing minimum of 12 weeks of highest level restrictions
WombatStewForTea · 22/03/2020 15:54
@iVampire Sainsbury's are. They've emailed people today. BIL got one although we don't think he should come under the extreme risk group

I don't think I am extremely high risk but I have two conditions which affect the immune system and the BBC say all that get the flu jab will receive a letter, (which I do). I work with vulnerable adults. My impression is that I'll still get SSP even if I'm not ill (considering that I'll get a letter telling me to stay home).
Both kids have been off since school since Weds and haven't been anywhere since (apart from indoors at their dad's).
I trust her to not speak to anyone on the way. It would be a 5-10 minute walk and I would disinfect everything (been doing this anyway) she brings in and she would thoroughly clean her hands.
Even two weeks ago I couldn't get a slot online that suited me or get the shopping I wanted.
Thanks for al the replies.

all that get the flu jab will receive a letter
This is not true. Only the extreme risk group will get a letter. There is a full list here www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-on-shielding-and-protecting-extremely-vulnerable-persons-from-covid-19/guidance-on-shielding-and-protecting-extremely-vulnerable-persons-from-covid-19#what-do-we-mean-by-extremely-vulnerable
nolovelost · 22/03/2020 16:50
Thanks for that. If this is the case I won't get a letter. It was a doctor on the BBC news that said it was everyone that receives the flu jab. It's frustrating all the condradictory reports.
nolovelost · 22/03/2020 17:22
@WombatStewForTea how do you know that the people on this list will get the letter?
iVampire · 22/03/2020 17:27
I’m not an existing Sainsburys online customer. Do you think they’d take on a new super-vulnerable one?
Or with others have to follow suit?
I’ve emailed to ask (since they first said a week ago that the extra measures were coming) as I knew that I would fall into the highest risk group. But no answer (just the high volume of doom generic holding response)
WombatStewForTea · 22/03/2020 17:30
If I remember correctly the flu jab thing is who is at an increased risk - this is the asthmatics, pregnant people etc. These are people who should stringently adhere to social distancing.
I think they realised that they had implied millions and millions of people would need to shield for 12 weeks which isn't true.
The guidance says: The NHS in England is directly contacting people with these conditions to provide further advice. The press conference today has confirmed this will be by letter
