Are we getting things under control?

Total number of deaths here yesterday was 233 - exactly the same as Italy two weeks ago.

Today our total figure is 244 (+11) while Italy’s two weeks ago was 366 (+133).

Does this mean our number of fatalities is slowing and that we won’t end up on the same awful trajectory as Italy? Can we take this as a glimmer of hope?

I believe that the England figures haven't been announced yet and think the plus 11 is Scotland and NI

Ffsnosexallowed · 22/03/2020 15:35

It's hardly even started here yet.

playthestation · 22/03/2020 15:37

Where are you getting today's figures please?

IceKitten · 22/03/2020 15:37

Wait till the end of the day OP - it may not have been updated yet.

ClashCityRocker · 22/03/2020 15:39

The plus eleven excludes England and (I think) Wales, I'm afraid.

Falangalangadingdang · 22/03/2020 15:39

The only deaths I've seen reported today were for Wales, nothing yet for Scotland, N Ireland or England.

DareToEatAPeach · 22/03/2020 15:40

Today our total figure is 244 (+11) while Italy’s two weeks ago was 366 (+133).

As pp have said - England haven't tended to release figures until much later in the day. Plus it's Sunday which may add extra delay.

utterlybutterly8 · 22/03/2020 15:40

Oh crap, you’re right - that figure doesn’t include England. Sorry!

One day isn't enough to determine if we've made a difference.
I sincerely hope we have but we'll need weeks of data or significant decrease to determine that. Need to continue with quarantine and isolate methods for several more weeks I think.

managedmis · 22/03/2020 15:40

No, it's just the beginning. Exponential curve and all that

PicsInRed · 22/03/2020 15:41

It's hardly even started here yet.

This.

DareToEatAPeach · 22/03/2020 15:41

www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/ says...

"11 new deaths in the United Kingdom: 7 in Wales, 3 in Scotland, 1 in Northern Island. England's figures will be released later "

utterlybutterly8 · 22/03/2020 15:42

Yes sorry folks - I hold my hands up, I spoke too soon Sad

Hardly! Judging by today's selfish fuckwits out in the sun we will b3 the worst country of all.

The one that is an island. The one that had a crystal ball with Europe. The one with the precious gift of time.

The one with Johnson
The one with all the selfish, arrogant, ignorant people
The one whose health service was abandoned for years

I want to weep for the waste.

WoollyFoolly · 22/03/2020 15:45

I would guess that really there is nothing which is going to slow the pace for at least the next two weeks, given restrictions are only now starting to come into force. Cases are doubling roughly every three days so I'd expect us to be on around half a million cases in 2 weeks time. Then it may start to slow, depending on how well restrictions work. I doubt it will unless we go into full lockdown pretty damn quick. We should have done it two weeks ago.

PicsInRed · 22/03/2020 15:45

7 deaths in Wales per head of pop doesn't bode well for England as their outbreak is about the same duration as England's.

utterlybutterly8 · 22/03/2020 15:47

I wonder when the English figure will be released - I’m hoping we start to diverge from Italy now. Like you say though, with no one taking the government’s advice to stay home it doesn’t look likely Sad

WoollyFoolly · 22/03/2020 15:52

Unfortunately, we are already on a different trajectory to Italy but ours is worse. Our rate of increase in deaths is much higher, avg 45% compared with Italy's 35% - theirs is now dropping.
