This is ridiculous. I hope someone reports it.

Huh? They are offering to go into schools that are staying open for the children of key workers.

That's a good thing, surely?

Frankiecandle · 22/03/2020 15:15

If the kids are in school anyway I can't see what you are getting your knickers knotted about.

Plus the online stuff seems kinda good?

BogOffWinter · 22/03/2020 15:16

That’s just a wall of letters and numbers for me, click link anywhere?

slipperywhensparticus · 22/03/2020 15:19

They shouldn't be going into schools joe wicks is doing an online pe session free via Facebook and YouTube no need to contaminate anyone

PersephonePitstop · 22/03/2020 15:20

It says that the entire team have overwhelming affirmed their willingness to join the local effort in order to support key workers and vulnerable families

So these children will be in school anyway, so what’s wrong with that?

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 22/03/2020 15:25

I am 'getting my knickers knotted' about the fact that the school childcare option is to be used as a last resort to look after the children of those vital in this crisis and vulnerable children who would not be safe at home. What these children do not need is people prancing from school to school doing the exact opposite of what we are being advised. Just think how many extra people, including the very key-workers we need to protect, could be infected by the actions of these people who see this as helping. This seriously INCREASES the risk of all these children taking it home to all these keyworkers we are relying on. IT IS NOT HELPING. I'm all for the virtual sessions - I think it's a fabulous idea. But in person???? WTF are they thinking??

Why do so many people not get this??????

CuriousaboutSamphire · 22/03/2020 15:30

What do you think kids will be doing in schools? Teachers will be babysitting, not teaching. The mix of years precludes much of that.

What they will be doing is looking for activities to keep the kids occupied, happy and healthy. Structured activities will be essential and this company is offering a much needed service. Augmenting staff ratios and reducing cabin fever.

Remember those kids won't be getting Easter break etc. They, and the teachers are in from no until whenever normal service resumes. Whatever rota they manage to implement there are going to be some very burned out teachers and frazzled kids.

Frankiecandle · 22/03/2020 15:31

Phone the police then.

PotholeParadise · 22/03/2020 15:38

I suspect they're not "prancing from school to school" and that they have been keen to minimise their personal health risks as much as anyone else.

There's a lot of mentions of virtual learning in that there article.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 22/03/2020 15:40

Do some people think the social distancing guidelines were created at a whim?

I want to be alive at the end of all this, and as many other people in the world as possible. If people carry on with their current way of thinking the end of all this will be a long long time coming.

^^

What will they do?

willowpatterns · 22/03/2020 15:47

Looks like it could be outdoors in the fresh air, with plenty of room to spread out and get some exercise.

Better than being cooped up indoors tbf.

Alialialiali · 22/03/2020 15:48

DAY 14....
The UK population starts having a mental breakdown....

Marieo · 22/03/2020 15:49

It would make so much more sense if they did a series of online lessons or whatever, and schools and maybe for those at home schools could issue a schoolwide log on. That is safer for all, and means that it's not another incentive for parents to send children in when they don't need to.

AmelieTaylor · 22/03/2020 15:52

@dontfuckingdaycheese

I am very VEEY much on the scared shirtless side of all of this I’m fed up of people saying it’s scaremongering when I point out why people need to STAY HOME & to taje a look at China & Italy and ask themselves why they think we are any different?! Etc. In fact been arguing in another thread today and been accused of all sorts 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’d love the schools to be closed. I’d love no teaching staff to have to work.

However, we HAVE to support ‘key workers’ working and I simply don’t have a better solution than the schools 😢 even that’s inadequate for what key workers need.

Those kids have to be cared for while their parents work- it’s not their fault, we can’t line them up on the field 2 m apart from each other for 6 hours.

I don’t see that a few young people coming into the school to do some fun activities with them is going to make much of a difference than them being cooped up in classrooms all day.

It’s not ideal, but nothing about key workers working or their kids needing care or tgus whole ducking CV is fair

But the schools NEED to be very firm about which kids can attend.

Some lazy fuckers are sending their kids in to schools that aren’t checking because ‘they’ll do my head in at home and kids don’t get it bad’. As thick as fucking mince.

Have I missed something that makes you think this a particularly bad idea?!

Jaxhog · 22/03/2020 15:52

If the kids are in school anyway I can't see what you are getting your knickers knotted about.

It might sound good, but that's yet more random people going out and making contact with other people. If you think they'll be able to 'social distance' you're quite mad. The whole point of the lockdown is to minimize interpersonal contact. We HAVE to do something with key workers kids, but adding yet more people to the mix is just crazy!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 22/03/2020 15:54

We don't have a lockdown yet!

Sameold2020 · 22/03/2020 15:57

I'm with you, op. The kids should be exposed to as few people as possible. It's absolutely ridiculous. You couldn't make it up.

Davincitoad · 22/03/2020 15:59

Any are people defending this. Is this happening in Italy? No. France? No. Spain? No. It sounds nice but it’s ridiculous

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/03/2020 15:59

If the staff coming in to the schools practice strict social distancing of 2 metres, this could be good. Hopefully it will be thought out with this in mind.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 22/03/2020 16:00

@AmelieTaylor

We're supposed to be minimising social contact.
How is allowing more people to go from school to school for half a day at a time each week minimising social contact? It is the very opposite of minimising social contact for the very children and therefore families who are at the most risk of being infected and then spreading. They may as well offer visits to the NHS workers in their own homes while they're at it.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 22/03/2020 16:04

We don't have a lockdown yet!

Obviously this is what is necessary for some people as they are currently ignoring all the advice so far. - thinking well if I can still do it I'm going to do it. I'll be relieved when lockdown happens.

lyralalala · 22/03/2020 16:06

The HT of DS's school has made it clear to several groups locally who've offered things like this that nothing will be getting done in school that encourages more people to send their kids

No proper educating, no special drama or dance or music.

It'll be simple childminding and whilst they won't let the kids become bored shitless, they won't be doing anything that makes anyone feel their kid is missing out to keep numbers to a minimum
