Dh has 1 employee in his business. His business is such that he and employee travel in dhs vehicle for much of the day. They are obv in close proximity to each other in vehicle. Dh and employee have no access to hand washing all day (could use wipes or gel). Given this, aibu to suggest to dh that it goes against give advice and H&S for him to continue working like this with employee for this difficult time? Attached is govt recommendations for employers for hand washing but I’m unsure if legally required due to wording, but surely a risk assessment would show up they are working too close together when travelling and lack of hand washing very problematic. It might be that they may be able to wash their hands if customers are home and willing to let them, but that then presents a risk at going into peoples houses they otherwise wouldn’t be in where the virus may be and likely the customers won’t want them coming in to hand wash anyway with everyone (hopefully) self isolating and social distancing.
Just wondered if I could have some perspective on this for what other people think. His job obv is essential for our income and his business but not essential in terms of being a key worker etc. Atm he has work still he is able to do and keep away from people (except employee). He is planning to continue to work as long as he is able to during this but it’s just the question of safety with an employee in such close proximity and the issue of lack of hand washing for the employee being something he should be able to ensure to meet the needs of an employee.
