OP's a GF Hmm

Wannabangbang · 22/03/2020 14:52

And there were food banks before this imagine how the foodbanks will be now, with selfish tossers have raided the supermarkets I'm assuming they'll be struggling to help people

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 22/03/2020 14:52

OP's a GF

I want to use a different word than GF...but I can’t cos of guidelines

But that has to rank as one of the stupidest OPs ive seen in a while...maybe ever

Wannabangbang · 22/03/2020 14:55

Basically op, have some compassion for others. Nows the time when we really see peoples real personalities shining through or not shining at allHmm

1forsorrow · 22/03/2020 14:56

Well we are supposed to be isolating for 12 weeks so I think we are likely to starve to death unless something is done about the food situation.

ValleyClouds · 22/03/2020 14:56

I'm a wheelchair user in a vulnerable group, I am lucky that I have a good support network plenty of people in my circumstances do NOT and are isolated and struggle on little money at the best of times.

But yeah, sure, its just essential nutrition to remain alive that they may not be able to get, even if they don't get CV so what's all the fuss about? Hmm

WatcherintheRye · 22/03/2020 14:59

does no one have greengrocers?

No, in my city there isn't a single greengrocer's shop left, and only one butcher's. Has the decimation of the high street not affected your neck of the woods?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/03/2020 15:00

For the last week where I live there has been no

Pasta
Rice
Loo roll
Sanitary towels
Potatoes
Uht milk/soya/oat milk
Eggs
Bread flour
Bread
Chicken
Hand wash
Very little meat
Baked beans
Tinned veg
You're lucky if you get fresh milk
No washing detergent

And that is in 3 big supermarkets, farm shop and multiple garages.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/03/2020 15:01

We don't have a greengrocer.

Wannabangbang · 22/03/2020 15:03

And san pro don't get me started, have 4 of us that menstruate, and we only have enough towels for one period so pretty dire

BournvilleGreen · 22/03/2020 15:03

Waitrose we're limiting to one bottle of milk today, which ordinarily would be no issue...but I was also shopping for my elderly (isolated) MIL and my DD has to have lacto-free milk.
Shopping fail.

GhettoMatrix · 22/03/2020 15:05

I'm at home with a toddler. I am running out of food. I don't have a good support network. I've tried to join Facebook groups but nobody seems to have the things I need. I need oat milk as my son can't eat fairy. I need bread. I have no toilet roll but thankfully I have reusable cloths. I have a few bits and pieces in the freezer. I have a week left of self isolation. My dad is a key worker frontline for the NHS and can't even manage to get shopping for himself. I have been crying all morning because I don't know how long this is going to carry on for. I don't want to bulk buy. I don't want to stop anyone else from doing their shopping. I just want some basics for my family. I am a single mum and going slightly crazy stuck at home with my teething toddler. It makes it even harder having very little food left. Desperate to get a delivery but the supermarkets have run out of slots. I suffer with anxiety and ocd. This is really hurting some people.

EricaNernie · 22/03/2020 15:06

i must be very lucky then

OP posts:
Wannabangbang · 22/03/2020 15:07

Lucky im guessing you hoarded thenHmm because only someone that's fully stocked would not see the struggles of others and if you are i urge you not to hoard again

RingaRosie · 22/03/2020 15:08

You are lucky, OP. I live somewhere that, geographically, means we have no food shortages. I’m grateful.

RHTawneyonabus · 22/03/2020 15:12

I don’t have either a greengrocer or a garage but not sure why you are asking?

feellikeanalien · 22/03/2020 15:15

OP if you think people are moaning now you haven't seen anything yet.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/03/2020 15:15

Yeah well, it went really well for Marie Antoinette when she said something similar...

WhatTiggersDoBest · 22/03/2020 15:18

What a world OP lives in! A magical place where the shops are always open and this coronavirus is just hitting those Mean Old Multinational Supermarkets That Have Ruined The High Street.
Let's all eat some Blitz spirit and pull our socks up.
Hmm

EricaNernie · 22/03/2020 15:38

I would not say I am a hoarder, I am just as scared as the next person and feel the weight of responsibility for my family

OP posts:
NotMyFinestMoment · 22/03/2020 15:38

I've not been able to get food for nearly two weeks and struggling to feed my family. I'm skipping meals to ensure my family are fed. We are in self isolation, we can't get food delivered and we can't get it when we went out previously. At the moment my family are on a basic breakfast, sandwich for lunch and a semi proper rationed dinner. All meals are rationed. I'm eating cereal for dinner or nothing as I can't justify eating a meal in case my child needs that meal in the coming days. I'm not able to replace anything at all as it's being used up, because there's no food available to buy and no way to get it delivered, and there are families that are much worse off than mine.

EricaNernie · 22/03/2020 15:49

That's grim @notmy, I had a package delivered by a good samaritan, off Facebook, is there anything like that for you?

OP posts:
viccat · 22/03/2020 15:54

Not being able to buy basic food and household items also has a huge psychological impact on people at a time most of us are already feeling massively anxious in the face of something totally out of our control (the virus).

makingmiracles · 22/03/2020 16:11

There are food shortages, however the government try to tell us there isn’t. Our local supermarkets don’t do online orders, yet even first thing they are out of everything, meaning they have no had the items come on deliveries so cannot restock- those people queuing up for stores to open, don’t assume they are hoarders, I was one of them yesterday morning at 6.45 just trying to get 6 items, I still didn’t manage to get bread or milk from the two local supermarkets as neither had any, or much of anything else.

I don’t doubt there are stockpiles out there, but a lot of it comes down to the fact the supermarkets are not getting the stuff coming in on deliveries,it’s almost like we’re being deliberately pitted against each other to deflect from the fact there are supply problems.

Apparently lorries from overseas are having problems bringing deliveries over but the press have been stopped from reporting on it, presumably to try and stop people panicking further.

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 22/03/2020 16:23

Jeez. Where to start op. Food is kind of essential for life you know. I actually think there will be more damage from the economic shutdown than the virus - at least I suppose we can "hope" so, if the shutdown works.

I can start with this link I've just been sent actually. I'll see if there's anywhere else more visible I can put it, if no one's beaten me to it.
