Self Employed may come unstuck (some)

Obviously I am not talking about the majority of people who are self employed, i'm talking about the absent parents who claim they earn next to nothing to lower their maintenance, and the ones who avoid taxes

I think that if those who are self employed have to 'justify' their normal income if the government offer something similar to the salaried some of them are going to have problems. I read here many many times that the ex keeps their income down so that they dont have to pay as much.

Agree, and then they can live off their hidden gains for a while. DH is self employed and there would be no need to ‘justify’ their income, all HMRC needs to do us look at their most recent tax return and pay 80% of this. The only downside would be for those whose earnings increased in the last year or only started to be self employed in the last year.

Yep the cooked books are going to bite them in the ass now, along with directors taking dividends, that is if of course if the government decide to do more for the self employed

I was thinking the same, BIL & SIL are both self employed and have kept their 'official' earnings down for the past couple of years so that they could claim the max level of free childcare hours. Looking like it will bite them in the arse now. Hard not to feel slight level of schadenfreude after we struggled to pay £850 a month nursery fees for years.
