Partner going into work

morriseysquif · 22/03/2020 10:02

I know lots if the NHS are going into work as key workers. I'm going in myself tomorrow but my partner is travelling into London every day as his boss wants to justify paying them.
He works in events for a medicine based charity.
My kids will be at school while I work. The whole family is being exposed.

Utter madness. What can we do?

Anybody? He says he has to go in otherwise his boss will say he isn't stepping up to the plate. He is not a key worker.

Are you NHS? I have to go into work in a hospital tomorrow, and will no doubt get this virus sooner rather than later.

What do you want him to do?

What does your husband do as a job in events that means he can't work from home? Surely events aren't going on at the moment. His boss is a disgrace if he's making him go into work to justify paying him. He can claim 80% of his wages back from the government so he'll only have to pay 20% & if your husband can work from home, he's still working.

Him having to go to work means you have to send your kids to school. They should be at home with him as he's not a key worker.

I'd be contacting the boss & telling him this. It's people like him that are causing far too many kids to be sent to school.

I have my own business, I've been out to buy laptops for my employees to work as best they can from home (probably less people to contact if everyone social distancing so less work will be done but that can't be helped). And they would've been getting full pay even if the government hadn't offered help.

They are being given jobs to do. There is little he can do at home. I'm in education so have to work. I am telling him all this, he is a technician. They have staff meeting in the morning, and get this, a new member of staff starting work.
