Dr Anderson on Andrew Marr describes the inanity of rules for NHS staff

NHS staff with someone at home with symptoms must self isolate for two weeks

There’s no testing so they can’t find out if family member is non-Covid, which would enable them to come back to work

Yet those in London especially are working on wards with minimal PPE

Then getting on reduced service public transport, which is packed because not as much is running

Also recovered patients who may have had Covid getting in taxis home which are not then cleaned.

Madness!

NHS staff don’t have to self isolate for 2 weeks. They only have to stay off work if they are symptomatic.

Which is also madness but in a different way.

Rafa - that's not official advice. Some individual trusts have tried to impose that rule on employees but there's no general advice that NHS workers don't have to comply with the 14 day household isolation

My husband is intensive care doctor - he has already told me that if me or our DC have symptoms and have to self-isolate, he has to move out and continue going to work if he doesn't have symptoms.

We can be put up in hotels if family have symptoms.

There must be differences between sites, as there were two doctors on Andrew Marr who said the same. Also saying PPE which was starting to arrive was inadequate. My paramedic friend says the same.

A FRUSTRATED NHS chief has warned that an unprecedented amount of staff are catching coronavirus in hospitals and this is causing a crisis across the country.

NHS Providers CEO Chris Hopson complained there was little attention being shown to one of the biggest issues facing the NHS during the coronavirus crisis. As coronavirus cases continue to ravage Britain, Mr Hopson argued the NHS is also seeing a severe reduction in nurses and doctors due to staff catching the virus. While speaking on Radio 4's Today Programme Mr Hopson complained the NHS would continue to struggle as hospitals attempt to deal with more sick patients with even fewer staff.

He continued: "The problem that hasn't really been talked about at all is the number of staff that are off sick.

"So we started off with 100,000 vacancies and a very tired workforce

"We are now seeing 30, 40 and in some places 50 percent sickness rates.

"This is due to staff catching the virus or being in vulnerable groups and are forced to self-isolate.

"That is an unprecedented absence rate.

"What you have is a really wicked combination of trusts trying to deal with a lot more demand than they have ever had before with a lot fewer staff."
