Opening for takeaway coffee

I work part time in a café, (charity) we were told to turn up for work as usual yesterday, but closed and cleaned.
We are awaiting further info for next week but have been told it's likely we will operate on a takeaway basis. For the record we do about 3 takeaway coffees a week during normal service.Hmm
Am I right to be pissed off that my employer seems to be putting us at risk for no good reason other than to be seen to be continuing our charitable efforts.

It’s not normal service. All the sit in coffees will become take away coffees.

Puppywithattitude · 22/03/2020 09:41

There are over 20 coffee shops in town.
No shortage of takeaway coffee, we don't cover our costs as it is.

But you still have a job and will be paid. The risks of handing over a cup of coffee are very small, esp if you insist on contactless payment

Puppywithattitude · 22/03/2020 09:52

Oh ok then, thought from what I was reading everywhere else that I shouldn't make myself or anyone else vulnerable for the sake of a cappuccino.

I think they are trying to save their business and take away is the lesser of 2 evils.

If you are vulnerable you don't have to go to work though.

My DDs work place has switched to takeaway. She’s in London. They are a very large chain with absolutely no reason money wise to be doing this.
They are putting their staff and customers at risk.
There are no real measures in place for social distancing.
DD is in charge of a large team of people and can’t sleep at the moment for worrying about all the health and safety aspects of this.
The sooner the government put a complete lockdown on London the better.

Businesses are trying to adapt and survive as best they can. Everyone can't just stay at home as much as they would like to, it just isn't possible.

Puppywithattitude · 22/03/2020 09:57

The business doesn't take enough money in a normal day to cover operating costs.
It's not going to suddenly thrive on takeaways.

I agree that it is an unsatisfactory half way house making staff in London put themselves at risk using public transport and creating a feeling of normality.
Nando’s in our local centre last night was doing takeaway and lots of people were queuing inside and hanging around together in there.

It sounds like you need a new job anyway if they are failing
