In the news day, just unbelievable

Thousands of passengers from coronavirus hotspots such as Iran, Italy and even China are flying into Britain, despite the government’s domestic lockdown.

Flights have been arriving in London from Beijing and Rome every day, while Iran Air is operating three flights a week from Tehran.

The revelation follows a decision by the EU last week to ban virtually all travellers from outside the bloc for 30 days.

Let hope this is true.

Most people who contract the novel coronavirus experience mild symptoms, according to data from China, where the worst of the epidemic now appears to be over.

I was wondering about this, whether flights are still going in and out of the country when we have advised against all non essential travel. Obviously people should be able to get home. It has gone a bit quiet in the news about flights and aviation.

240 deaths out of 66 million people in the U.K. but thought this was an interesting point.

The Italian Institute of Health moreover distinguishes between those who died from the coronavirus and those who died with the coronavirus. In many cases it is not yet clear whether the persons died from the virus or from their pre-existing chronic diseases or from a combination of both.

I think we need to conduct these arguments based on science rather than politics. It seems very dangerous to be allowing people to enter the UK from these places at the moment.

Absolutely ready to be corrected but last time I checked, the WHO advised against widespread travel bans as they said they are largely ineffective. Has that advice changed? I would argue that following the WHO's advice is following the science, surely?

LancashirePeeler · 22/03/2020 16:18

We are being advised against non-essential travel and there are loads of travel restrictions already in place. I think all of these measures are based on science.

Lordfrontpaw · 22/03/2020 19:17

We are still seeing tourists arriving (we live next to several big hotels and there is still people arriving from abroad). I don’t understand why they wouldn’t cancel their trip.

Pinkpeone1 · 26/03/2020 03:49

OP, people who make comments like people come from these places are inherently racist.

That's you.

ItsLateHumpty · 26/03/2020 03:57

... my sons friend came back from Spain two days ago and was out and about with friends within a few hours of arriving home.

So I'm assuming you reported him for breaking isolation rules OP.

slipperywhensparticus · 26/03/2020 04:16

Considering travel insurance companies are largely refusing to pay out I'm not surprised they are still taking holidays

Dontjumptoconclusions · 26/03/2020 05:48

@Bluntness100 people may not be travelling for fun but you can bet people will get on a plane for free healthcare

slinkysaluki · 26/03/2020 17:23

Colleague flew back from
canada last Sunday and came into work on the Monday, no quarantine nothing and we work for the NHS

slinkysaluki · 26/03/2020 17:25

People still using public transport...

fussychica · 26/03/2020 17:33

We are in virtual lockdown yet these flights are still landing and when people get off they just sail through as normal. Really don't understand why this hasn't been addressed by now.

Crackerofdoom · 26/03/2020 17:42

I would normally agree OP that people coming into the UK from areas with high numbers of CV cases should be tested or have mandatory quarantine.

However, until the crowds on the tube platforms and at supermarkets are better managed what's the point?

@Dontjumptoconclusions
I don't think anyone is going to be rushing to the UK for the fabulous free healthcare right now.

I have seen a lot of international media coverage and the UK and USA are mainly grouped together as how not to deal with CV Hmm

Free access to ICU won't help people if there are no beds
