Have been on MN for 20 mins today and already seen threads from someone thinking about sending their son to nursery when he had a fever and someone else sending a child to the shop from a family with coughs and fevers ......

When will people wake up to how bad this is and how much worse it's going to get.

We r in the social distancing category and pretty much going no where. But if You can't trust the people around you in the chemist/ corner shop once a week to be following the rules then there no hope

I'm so angry right now - pretty much going to do 14 days self isolation now because it seems we can't trust other people

If my household go for a walk you will see three people together which may look as though we being irresponsible but as we live together we are already in each others spaces all the time. I agree, however, that plenty of people are being dicks but we mustn't assume so just because they aren't alone. Fresh air is definitely needed though and many dont have gardens.

ShanghaiDiva · 22/03/2020 09:07

@pjmask
Agree.
The problem is groups of kids from different households playing together outside.

Namechanger0800 · 22/03/2020 09:09

People in regions in Italy are not allowed out to even exercise now - that's how bad this is and how bad it will get

Exactly. Be sensible now and we may avoid more severe restrictions.

ilovecakeandwine · 22/03/2020 09:11

Playing outside with a sibling and walking in pairs with a member of the same household is fine . Mixing with others is not unless a good distance apart .
In shops it's difficult but people are doing their best to stay apart .
If you see 2 or 3 children playing or 2 people together don't assume they are not from the same household as assuming otherwise is causing yet more stress than what is already a stressful time .

shuuush · 22/03/2020 09:22

Sorry she was defending her child playing in the street with other neighbours children.
Said it would be fine as long as she washed her hands regularly.

VeraPamil · 22/03/2020 09:22

I’m at high risk, I’ve been staying at home, now my son will be at home too.

My husband, on the other hand, insists life must go on and is refusing to do any kind of social distancing. Standing next to people chatting when out with the dog, going to the shop everyday —for fucking energy drinks— just generally carrying on like there’s no problem. He’s so annoyed the gym is closed and refuses to believe I am at high risk, despite me having had a transplant because ‘it’s only over 70’s isn’t it’. He thinks everything will be fine because F1 are making ventilators!?!? Oh, and Boris said it will be over in 12 weeks so it’s a fuss about nothing.

Apparently I’m just overreacting, like I do with everything, because I was upset about Brexit. He can’t be the only ignorant cunt so yeah, god help us all.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/03/2020 09:23

Children can play outside alone fine

Children can go to the park (again alone) and interact/play with members of their own households note not family. You cannot play in the park with cousin Finn or Lucy if they do not live in the same house.

No children should play in the playground unless maintaining safe distance from other children and you take stringent hygiene both before and immediately after touching equipment.

People will flout all these rules as it is too difficult to maintain longterm.

HyacynthBucket · 22/03/2020 09:36

VeraPamil You poor love. That is absolutely shocking. Lock him out, and get him to stay elsewhere. Change the locks, anything! You cannot be put at risk by this idiot you are married to. Please get some way of being safe at home. Can anyone you know knock some sense into his blockhead? Maybe your doctor could inform him. Bless you, and good luck. Keep safe.

returnofthecat · 22/03/2020 09:41

I've seen plenty photos of people flouting the social distancing rules because in their own words it's 'for [their] mental health.'

Call me unsympathetic, but stopping people from physically dying has to come above all other priorities. Running in a group might have been a good coping strategy a few weeks ago, but now it's just stupid. Run alone near where you live. Don't travel to meet up with people on the other side of town and run side by side. You may be fit and healthy, but you could end up being a carrier even if you don't get ill!

Socialising virtually is not ideal, but we all have to sacrifice our personal freedoms to some extent in order to play our part. I miss going outside (I'm currently self-isolating), but I'm not selfish enough to think that what I 'want' is more important than what other people 'need'. They need to not die.

Ginfordinner · 22/03/2020 09:52

I see the young people in Barnsley are following the guidelines to keep a social distance - not Hmm

I live near a large park and am seeing a lot of this, jogging meetups including mums buggy running side by side and cycling parties. I despair. I honestly do not know what the point is of govt risking the economy shutting things down just for people to carry on as usual.

And agree the mental health excuse is wearing thin.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/03/2020 10:00

Ginfordinner It's the same with teens in London. I on an estate and nearly called the police as a group of teens congregated outside my poor neighbours door at 11:45 on Wednesday night. Playing music and having a laugh. I know young people are selfish, I was too, however never that selfish.

But it's the parents I blame most.

LeniSpring · 22/03/2020 10:03

Don't someone I know is defending her child playing outside yesterday " because she still needs a childhood

They can still play outside. My local council is even encouraging people to use outdoor places and has put a list up of all the parks and open spaces, stating that they are still open and while you shouldn't really be using play equipment or outdoor gyms, enjoying nature and getting fresh air and exercise is still allowed.

Meruem · 22/03/2020 10:04

I don't trust others to do the right thing so I'm just staying indoors myself. Everyone who does follow the rules, means one less idiot out there spreading it around. I'm not sick at this point but would like to keep it that way. The 7 days/14 days is pretty meaningless now as none of us should be going anywhere unless we absolutely have to (other than essential workers).

Sexnotgender · 22/03/2020 10:08

I don't trust others to do the right thing so I'm just staying indoors myself.

This in spades.

You only have to look at the news or social media to see how many inconsiderate arseholes aren’t doing what they’re told.

Inforthelonghaul · 22/03/2020 10:24

We have been self isolating but have now had our income more than halved which means that even with the restrictions we aren’t going to meet the bills and feed ourselves.

Our local Tesco is looking for temporary workers to fill shelves etc. Which is worse, fall into greater debt and stay isolating or get a job in the supermarket which would help our finances and needs to be done by someone otherwise how the hell will we be able to keep food shopping.

I don’t want to work in a supermarket but I can see it’s a necessary evil and someone has to do it and we have 5 people to feed.

HowIrresponsible · 22/03/2020 10:25

Don't someone I know is defending her child playing outside yesterday " because she still needs a childhood
That's fine!

Provided she is healthy and well and no symptoms. She can play away from other children but has she doesn't need to be indoors

ShanghaiDiva · 22/03/2020 10:58

Yes, we all follow the rules so kids will have a childhood where the grandparents and other family members still around....

ilovecakeandwine · 22/03/2020 12:59

Running in a group might have been a good coping strategy a few weeks ago, but now it's just stupid
If you keep to the 3 metre distance it's fine . I've just been to Asda and people are not keeping their distance at all but that's ok apparently because it's essential Hmm. I'm surprised the staff don't wear gloves either .

I think it won't be long before only so many people are allowed in a shop , at least it would cut down on the people over shopping or like it's something to do .

Ginfordinner · 22/03/2020 14:34

Some shops are already restricting numbers. Several Aldi stores and Asda in town now have security guards on the doors.

eeeyoresmiles · 22/03/2020 14:41

I don't think any of this will change until people really believe that they're at risk by being close to other people (they won't care as much about the danger they themselves pose).

ilovecakeandwine · 22/03/2020 15:10

@Ginfordinner not near me yet but I've been told that in Aldi in another town they have security in the door to restrict numbers so may we scaled our everywhere in the next few days .

BuzzingtheBee · 22/03/2020 15:13

Yep ... so so many selfish people out there, lots of people I am going to see in a different light!

iVampire · 22/03/2020 15:16

I’m inside for 12 weeks minimum

I can only assume that some people are posting made-up threads, because there really can’t be that many thick and obstinate people out there.
