Leaving kids outside shops/in cars
Fedupandpoor · 22/03/2020 08:19
I have to make a run for a few essentials as the first food delivery slot I could get is not until Friday. I'm torn between taking the car and leaving the kids inside or having them stand outside the shop. I live in Devon, quiet town where everyone knows each other. Kids are 3 and 5, so the 3 year old would be in his pushchair if outside and my 5 year old would wait next to it. It's a coop and is on a small green, away from the main road. There is a little car park outside about 8m from the shop. We have no symptoms. What is everyone's else doing?

I wouldn't leave children that young standing outside a shop on their own. Is there anyone that could shop for you?

I wouldn’t leave a 3 and 5 year old outside the shop. Car maybe.
Can you not take them in with you and give other shoppers a wide berth?

Yes, I could take them in. DD has asthma so maybe being a bit overprotective.

Everyone has no symptoms for two weeks. This is the message that is now trying to be put across. So treat yourself as though you are carriers and as though others are carriers. The advice is six feet apart, at the minimum.

Leave them in the car - safer than standing outside and given the current climate probably socially acceptable!!

I left my 4 and 8 year old in the car With spare phone on the speakers and had headphones in so i could speak to them as it was a small tesco

I would leave them in the car, strapped in with the doors locked. Outside the shop there is a chance they could wander off. I think it's a good idea not to take them into the shop - my 3yo cant keep her hands to herself!
