Can we have a shout out thread for all the sensible places where people seem to be taking guidance seriously?

I’m finding the reports of ‘selfish people carrying on as normal’ frightening and disheartening. It’s also the opposite of what I’ve seen, so here’s a shout out for the sensible people of Worcester which was quiet yesterday with people leaving lots of space! Add your town/village/city!

I don’t think there are any. If you were being truly sensible you would be in your house/garden and wouldn’t be able to comment. I’m a HC worker and I’m absolutely astounded at the number of people out and about (as I drive to work). Mother Nature is doing its thing. Many stupid people will die taking a whole lot of not stupid people with them.

I’ve not been out and witnessed it personally but have seen photos of Nottingham and Manchester City centres from yesterday. Normally bustling places completely empty. It makes me proud as they’re my favourite cities and have family there. Times like these really highlight who actually cares about other people, not just themselves

Hollyhead · 22/03/2020 08:06

@phivephatphish I had an essential reason to pop out, and stayed away from people, not to mention the fact that I’ve stayed in as much as possible for 4 weeks now as I got informed early.

But thanks for pissing on my bonfire and making me feel worse anyway maybe save your pious condemnation for people who are actually irresponsible.

We don't have a garden and I'll be damned if I'm keeping a 5yo, 2yo, and 3mo twins in a two bedroom flat for the foreseeable future. Guidelines do not stopulaye you stay indoors. [Hmm]

We were out for a walk yesterday through town and into local woodland and we saw one other person who crossed the road to not walk beside us, and town was dead. Lots of people being very sensible around here (north herts)

I’m in Ireland. This is the tenth day since the schools closed. Over the past several days, I was in a city centre, on a beach, on a farm that sold vegetables, in a market, on a popular suburban riverside walk, in a pharmacy and in a supermarket — and everyone I saw was observing the recommended distances, and in the pharmacy, market and supermarket they were being enforced by staff. The city centre was semi-deserted. The usually busy bus route that passes my door has an average of three passengers a bus.

My parents and ILs are staying indoors and we’re dropping them groceries on the doorstep and Skyping and talking through the window. DS’s class WhatsApp makes it clear no one is having play dates or mixing outside their immediate family.

Our street has been like a ghost town for days. It is usually fairly busy.

GalleyHead · 22/03/2020 08:12

@phivephatphish, no reason not to be outdoors to get food, medication or exercise if you take the recommended precautions. Hmm

Many London suburbs seem to be carrying on as normal. Madness.

MrsLangOnionsMcWeetabix · 22/03/2020 08:14

A friend of mine cycled through central London last night and said it was deserted.

Fatted · 22/03/2020 08:19

Well considering so many people still have to go to work and every man and his dog are in the supermarket, it's not total lock down is it?! Some people don't have a choice.

We are trying to stay in where we can. But DH and I are both still having to go to work every day. I took the kids out for a walk yesterday afternoon for an hour. It was very quiet on the road, so people are still listening. But some people, like my family, are being expected to carry on as normal.

Rosehip10 · 22/03/2020 08:20

@MrsLangOnionsMcWeetabix yep all the idiots are are now wfh are making the suburbs busy all day.

TheGreatWave · 22/03/2020 08:27

Everyone seems to be avoiding the city/town centres and instead going for walks.

Trouble is, lots of people are having the same idea, but at the moment they are technically not doing anything wrong.

I'm 14 weeks pregnant and I'm observing the 'high risk' plan of as few social interactions as possible.

My boss sent me home the morning after Boris announced pregnant women were being recategorised and I won't be back for at least 12 weeks.

I'm not seeing family or friends and no visitors to the house.

We shop online and had a delivery last week that will last until the next one on the 30th.

We took our dog to the local beach at 8am yesterday and we were the only ones there. Something we do regularly suddenly felt like a massive treat. I won't take these things for granted anymore.

I hope people start to realise how bad this is going to get.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 22/03/2020 08:32

It's quiet where l am in Kent. Lots of little families going for walks, not normally the case. Central London was quiet.
