Is there a link anywhere to self isolation guidelines?
BadMoon · 22/03/2020 07:38
Just had a text from someone I had close contact with on Tuesday - they have the symptoms.
Since I saw them I have been into work (school setting) and I am expected to be there for the foreseeable future.
Do I need to self isolate?

Thanks for this. It doesn't say anything about what to do if you have had contact with someone who may have it who is not a family member?

I would say you definitely need to. If you have had close contact with someone who shows symptoms you could well transmit it, even if you remain asymtomaic. Anyone you come into contact with could be vulnerable or have vulnerable family members, so please self isolate for 14 days. I hope you stay well.

Thank you Summer70. Should my whole family isolate for 14 days?
Sorry - I feel like an idiot asking, but I want to be sure.

BadMoon - I’m afraid I’m not an expert & I think you’ll have to check - also it may be 7 days & not 14 that you have to isolate. Sorry, the guidance isn’t that clear! Whatever happens, isolate until you can find the answer x

In your situation I would say you need to ask. Maybe a phone conversation with NHS111 or your GP who can probably ask all sorts of detailed follow up questions and give you the correct answer - unlike social media. I think much will depend on whether your friend had symptoms on Tuesday and how close your contact was and for how long. While it is theoretically possible to catch it from an asymptomatic person who comes within a metre of you it is quite unlikely.
You have checked NHS guidance and it does not cover your question so you are not wasting anyone else’s time.
I would stay at home until you get a definitive answer.

Thank you both.
I am not feeling ill and the person I came into contact with did not appear ill on Tuesday.
I'm on the fence with calling 111 etc - they must be so stretched at the moment. I'll call my boss tomorrow and see what the school guidelines are. In the meantime, I'll stay at home and enjoy the sunshine.
