Birth plan in this madness - will this keep midwives, dc1, baby and DH as safe as possible?

Been thinking a lot about how to minimise risk for all involved in my upcoming birth. At the moment thinking the following

  • we as a family self isolate for 14 days (should this be 21?) Days prior to DD
  • ask DM to do the same (she will do so if asked) so DC1 is protected and she can look after her
  • any food will be delivered or we will just have to cope with our freezer stash
  • no visitors after unless willing to also self isolate for 14 days prior to visit

It seems extreme but these are extreme times and i want to keep everyone safe including the NHS staff in this

I think that sounds hugely sensible and well organised. Well done you for planning it so carefully. Good luck with your new baby

Great job

That sounds like a good plan. How you are going about midwife and HV visits?

SageYourResoluteOracle · 22/03/2020 07:15

I think it's an excellent plan given the circumstances. Wishing you the best of luck Thanks

My sister is a dr, she said we keep getting calls from pregnant woman who still insist on showing up for no emergency reasons putting themselves, their unborn babies, other pregnant woman and nhs staff at risk. It is disgusting and careless.

They started to divert them to A&E to protect other women as they are high risk group, and only pregnant women with serious problems are sent to them from A&E.

Forget to add, ur plan is very considerate, and believe me, they will appreciate it very much.

Thank you, trying to think of any flaws? Only issue is DD gets a cough when teething due to the increase in saliva and obviously the hospital may not believe we have fully isolated.

HV visits i cant remember being very helpful last time? We can track babys weight at home easily (thinking if we weigh when we get home even if our scales are out of sync we will know whether baby js gaining or losing)

Midwife visits I can't think of a solution to so they may be have to be a necessary risk?!

I have many friends in the NHS, they work so hard under normal circumstances so this is the least we can do as far as I'm concerned.

They deserve to be kept safe so we will do all we can to ensure they are
