We are in the midst of a Pandemic, social distancing is paramount in getting this bloody virus under some sort of control for the sake of the NHS if nothing/no-one else. AIBU in pleading for the young adults free of Education binds to be STRONGLY encouraged by their peers and parents to STOP trying to benefit from parents at their wits end, by offering childcare. I understand their heart may be in the right place but PLEASE help them see the magnitude of what could happen if they followed through with there offer. Look at Italy, and they have a great health service. Please take this seriously.

You are 100% correct.
I feel the same about school mums on WhatsApp groups , organising rotas, cinema afternoons , craft clubs etc. Stop!

YABU - wrong board

Hopeisnotastrategy · 22/03/2020 02:48

You are not being unreasonable. They are going to be needed to get the harvest in. (Not joking).

Matildathehun77 · 22/03/2020 03:04

I see where your coming from but if somebody has to work wouldn't one young adult coming to the house every day be less of a risk than the child going to a school run childcare hub?

mathanxiety · 22/03/2020 03:21

YABU, to some extent. Some people have to work, and some people are at a loose end and could make that work possible.

Children staying at home and out of circulation are at far less risk than children going out daily to some big childcare centre or school.

mathanxiety · 22/03/2020 03:21

Organising cinema afternoons, playdates, etc is not comparable. That is criminally stupid.

My young adult DD has to stay at her work and look after the DC of keyworkers

RhymingRabbit3 · 22/03/2020 07:30

Better to have 1 young adult come to the house and babysit, than going to school and mixing with 50 kids and teachers. The list of key workers is very long.

MinesAPintOfTea · 22/03/2020 07:34

YABU - one nanny to a family is much less risky than a large childcare rota or going into school, or going to vulnerable grandparents.

No, it's not ideal, but if that young adult is otherwise restricting their movement it is much better than ever other way the parent can get to work. I'm assuming that if WFH or unpaid time off is a feasible option these will be taken before bringing an unqualified young adult into the house...

maddening · 22/03/2020 08:07

Yabu, as per pp, preferable to a multi child daycare where we are expecting their parents to go to work

Mrsjayy · 22/03/2020 08:49

Some people have to go to work surely a 19 year old babysitting is better than kids mixing at school . I don't really understand your post tbh.

purplelila2 · 22/03/2020 09:48

YABU some of us have no choice but to work.
I have a laptop and can wfh but my employer wont allow me to and there's nothing I can do about it.
