Can anyone tell me are medics resistant once recovered?

Italian doctors might know the answer to this and I just wonder as given the lack of proper equipment here it would at least be heartening if staff were safe if had recovered from Covina 19?

I am so deeply humbled by what so many doctors and other professionals are facing for us all. I wish we could protect them and their families who don’t have the luxury of self isolating, whatever stress doing so may still give each of us .

It looks from Wuhan that there is, at least, some short term immunity from Covid 19 once you've had it, which is why their rates are slowing.

Hence why the government are forging ahead with finalising the anti body test.

So hopefully once you've had it, you are immune.

That is about the only heartening thing I’ve heard if true - at least then resistant supermarket workers etc can keep running etc.

no one fully understands yet how the immunity works. It is likely there is some short term immunity for pepole who have recovered (not just medcs - we dont have special powers really Wink)
But there is also some evidence that people exposed to higher viral load such as doctors can expereince a more severe illness so we dont yet know how increased viral load may affect immunity.

WHO shave reported people appearing to have caught it more than once.

That is sobering. Actually Zachary I do think medics have super powers 😊. I am so humbled by them and wish I could show support and love some way they would feel it!

There are a couple of reports of people catching it more than once. They are being carefully checked.

But they think that the vast majority form a lasting immune response.

I really, really hope they are right. Because of exposure and recovery doesn't give last lasting exposure, then there never can be a vaccine

CherryPavlova · 21/03/2020 18:33

There are some people who have not developed immunity.

scaevola · 21/03/2020 18:36

Sorry, that was a bit alarmist - there might still be a vaccine, but it would be one which might not 'take' well and which would need frequent boosters.

And to put on the optimist side of the balance, there are several viral diseases which it is very rare to get twice, but it can happen. They have good vaccines

I guess it also depends on if the virus mutates. If it does than we would be possibly back to square one, depending on whether it mutates into a ‘better’ or worse virus than at present.
