Admin staff for schools from Mon (23 Mar)

Those of you who work in an admin capacity, have you been rota'd in to work whilst the school operates on a skeleton structure? Quite frankly I am baffled as to why my school needs an admin person there all day every day just to sit in the office and take phone calls possibly from parents who don't even have children in the key worker provision?! When the school is shut, it is shut, all communication channels for teachers providing work for children staying at home have been given out to parents. We're a small school and have a mobile phone, which could be used should the parents who have children in the skeleton provision want to reach us during the day.

We are in to field the calls parents expect to have answered, the key workers who are contacting us to arrange next day care as they go shift by shift rather than blocking care daily when not required, first aid as skeleton staff means staff looking after the children may not be first aid trained, taking work pack requests, copying them, helping prep next week's learning packs bring point for parents of at home children to drop off completed packs and collect new packs from school as not relying on all families having printer or online learning.

Dealing with next meals day by day trying to sort the FSM Boris has offered but not told anyone how the fuck it will be organised, cracking on with cancelling booked trips, sorting next term milk etc

I take your point, however, we've ordered sandwich lunches for each day of the week, so not even a cook required, delivery will just come and get taken into the kitchen. As I said we're a small school, so all school excursions and other scheduled appointments have been cancelled prior to us closing our doors on Fri. The first set of learning packs have already been handed out for the next two weeks and, going forward, they are put together by teachers mostly working from home, possibly only coming in to school to photocopy and arrange packs towards the end of the first two weeks. Parents and students staying at home can reach teachers via email to begin with, some may be happy to give out their mobile phones I don't know. The staff in school will not be able to answer any homework related questions and are not there to provide such service anyway.
Any other non-essential school related issue surely must be postponed until further notice....this time should not be used to catch up on work!!

You obviously don't take the very comprehensive point Hmm.
What other explanation or reason do you need? It's all hands on deck!

I imagine kids will only be there for as short a time in the day as possible depending on the shifts of the parents. A lot of our admin's job includes traipsing around the building bringing in late kids or collecting kids who are to be going home. That won't change.

No admin, but non student facing support staff. All our staff have to go in next week. Whether I'll be needed after that I don't know, but if my colleagues need me then that's that. Support staff do exacty that. I think all of our roles will change somewhat over the closures and I'm fully prepared to sit in a classroom and supervise the students should teaching staff levels become critically low.

I don't want to sound preachy, but I think that those that can help, should

No Mookie81, you're missing the point of what the Government are asking us to do, it's not all hands on desk but the absolutely necessary amount of hands on deck! Also, admin teams are much smaller than teaching teams therefore teachers/TAs are expected to come in maybe once every fortnight whereas admin staff are scheduled in twice/three/four times a week.
