Ordering take aways

Londonmummy00 · 21/03/2020 17:01

Hi I keep getting promotion emails from just eat/ dominos etc about ordering and was wondering if anyone has carried on getting the odd take away? I don’t mean from the small dodgy places but the larger brands like Dominos or your usual restaurants that you have always trusted?
I ask because I have been feeling rubbish for a couple of weeks and feel currently so exhausted and drained (mentally too from the anxiety and stress of everything, work etc) that some days the last thing I want to do is cook. And it’s not just the actual cooking but all the prep/ clean up after for 2 adults and 2 young kids. I have been cooking as well as looking after a sick child, and not feeling well but some nights I just need a night off. I have read somewhere no take aways at all but the reason wasn’t clear.
What is everyone else doing?

We had a dominos a couple of days ago, trying to keep hold of our food as long as possible!

ViciousJackdaw · 21/03/2020 17:57

All you need to do is look at the Dominos website and they'll tell you when your local store is open. Problem solved.

ArtyFartyQueen · 21/03/2020 17:59

We’ve just ordered one 🤞

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 21/03/2020 17:59

No takeaways? I haven't seen that thankfully. I had a curry from our usual Indian last night and will continue to do so as long as possible

crazydiamond222 · 21/03/2020 18:00

I am not sure any Dominos is better than the small local places. Perhaps check food hygeine ratings before you buy

Ordering tomorrow for DS birthday. He can’t go out to a restaurant so will have to have a take away.

Just listening to a 5live phone in with a medical expert and he was fairly positive about takeaways, saying just make sure you decant the food from the packaging, bin the packaging and wash hands immediately then eat. He pointed out that the most virulent virus normally prevalent is norovirus and that very rarely gets transmitted via takeaways.

My DD works in pizza hut, they have no plans to close. They've stopped taking cash orders and will do contactless deliveries. At the moment the drivers would rather not have tips.

Their hygiene is always spot on.

They've had a run on the meat feast pizzas, possibly from people who can't get meat, but can't live without it. They combine high carbs and meat, so replaces bread, as well.

Many restaurants are offering takeaways as well. We are getting one tonight, but that will be it then until this is over (whenever that may be :() just as it's another unneeded trip really.

I have just picked up a takeway from my local Indian restaurant.

They are closed for dining, but are doing a brisk trade in take outs.
A member of staff is at the door to open- so we don't have to touch door handles.
The large waiting area has seats 6 foot apart, there is a pump of hand sanitiser at the ordering area.

BeeFarseer · 21/03/2020 18:16

We've been getting them and we're in self-isolation.

We set up a kid's plastic table outside for the delivery drivers to leave the food on (wiped down before and after with disinfectant).

I have no qualms about ordering, it keeps businesses going and means we aren't using the food in the house.

Londonmummy00 · 21/03/2020 18:23

These replies are all very positive. We don’t know what is safer- driving to the restaurant ourselves or to get a delivery driver to bring it to us. Obviously the second option is more appealing. But more riskier having having a middle man bringing our food himself in his car/ moped or are we just bring over the top there? I am just so sick of cooking already ... and fed up. I usually eat healthy and fresh food like fresh fruits, veg, omelette set. Chicken salads. But these things require popping to the shops for fresh produce every few days which right now is not a priority to be doing frequently. We have pasta, pizzas, and the usual long life stodge at home and feel we’re putting on weight- a lot- through these easy foods, comfort eating, stress eating and general boredom eating with no motivation yet to work out at home!

We've had one and opted for delivery as that meant seeing 1 person rather than potentially meeting other customers in the shop

Paintforkitchen · 21/03/2020 18:35

We’ve just had a dominoes. Ordered online, DH collected. He was in and out in seconds.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 21/03/2020 18:38

I've never had so many takeaways in my life!

Got a 50% off code for uber eats, so will have mothers day takeout for lunch tomororw

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 21/03/2020 18:38

We’ve had one today - lovely local indie pizza place (via deliveroo) who I’m keen to see survive this, and I’m knackered and cba to cook. I don’t think it’s any riskier than bringing food receptacles from the supermarket into the home, and I’m not wiping those down (I guess others might be).

We’re not a high risk household though - just trying to do our bit to minimise overall impact.

GrumpyHoonMain · 21/03/2020 18:52

Try buying Indian takeaways from sweetmarts rather than restaurants if your local one does delivery. Sweetmarts tend to be more hygienic as hot food is cooked to order everyday - also healthier as the portions are smaller and they are targeted to Indian people so are lighter / more what you would expect from home cooking. Food from sweetmarts is also a lot cheaper.
