To think you should keep your child at home?

Unless you and your partner are frontline/single parent or its not safe for the child at home? By sending them for any other reason you are helping to spread corona...

DH and I are both frontline keyworkers, the general public would soon know and be at risk if we didn't go to work, were having to get our employer to juggle our shifts to change DS's nursery times because people like someone who is in hr at a school that is closed (another school from the same academy is taking all the key worker children) , is insisting on sending their child to nursery. I cannot do my job from home, maybe the odd bit of paperwork but even then there are data security and system access considerations, I'm pretty sure an HR worker can.

No. I know a key worker who wants to send their child in so that they can keep up their education as they don't trust their partner to home school properly, even though the partner is happy to keep them at home. I think it's wrong.

The official guidelines are that if it is at all possible for a child to be kept at home, then they should be kept at home. As you say, the more children there are in school, the more likely it is that Coronavirus will spread.

DH is a key worker, but our DC will be staying at home for the duration because it’s possible for me to look after them.

I am concerned about their education and my ability to home school them properly, but there’ll be a lot of kids off school, so I’m guessing most kids will need some catching up academically once this is over. Plus from what I’ve heard it’s not going to be like normal school for the kids who will still be going.

I’m really worried the kids are home are going to fall behind. We were told 30% of the pupils in our school are going back in on Monday. My son is in bits that he can’t. Obviously he can’t go and I’m working from home anyway but I can’t shake the feeling that the teachers will be so busy at school they will have no time left for the kids at home who are supposed to be getting work through an app.
My friend is back office staff at a company who employs key workers, she could work from home but isn’t. Her husband is self employed and works from home. They are still sending their son to school and their 3 year old daughter, who has breathing problems, to nursery. They can’t see why I’m annoyed.

Teachers won’t be teaching - we have told the parents that the children who come to school will be doing the same home learning that the children that are home are doing because otherwise it wouldn’t be fair. Also it is impossible to teach when you will have children from different year groups. We have told our parents it’s childcare and that is all - no teaching. If a parent is home the child should be too.

Bluewavescrashing · 21/03/2020 15:00

I'm teaching in school next week. We are not going to be doing normal lessons. Colouring in, crafts etc. National curriculum is currently suspended.

Keep your child at home and keep them safe.

whataloadoftoshasusual · 21/03/2020 15:01

But yes if teachers are having to be in to be childcare for the kids are school we won’t be able to keep up with the home learning too.

AvoidingRealHumans · 21/03/2020 15:04

All of our children will fall behind to some extent. The children going in aren't being taught anything and we won't be expected to teach our children anything.
The work provided to us at home and will be given to those still in school is just what they have already learnt already to keep them sharp on it.
The rules were if you can keep them at home then you should be doing so. Of course some people will take the piss out of this, they should be ashamed.

wonkylegs · 21/03/2020 17:19

We are keeping ours home, nursery and school phoned to offer us a place as DHs profession is on their records however I work from home anyway and there is no need to unnecessarily expose them especially as I'm in the vulnerable category
It's a moot point at the moment as everyone is at home isolation until the end of next week anyway - not sure if it's a general winter bug or CV but heeding the rules
I'm quite worried about DH being exposed at work but doing our best to stay calm and do our bit.
