It's midnight here, and I can't sleep, so thought I'd ask on Mumsnet.

I seem to have an unsolvable problem which needs solving.

I'm in a country where the schools aren't shut down, in a city/state with highest numbers of infections in the country, still low in absolute terms, but they've started to double every 3 days or so.

The other bread winner in the house became suddenly very ill (not corona) and was told he must stop working and isolate other than dialysis. His job was casual, no sick leave, accrued pay etc. Income dropped by around 60% overnight.

I can manage with my income plus savings for around six months. But I work in a school. And I have a pre-existing lung disease. I have two weeks paid leave, nothing after that. Am on contract, so possibly no paid leave if the schools close either. I travel to work across the city on public transport. We rent. If I don't work, we can't pay rent.

So to me, it looks like a choice between eviction* and exposure. If you were me, which one would you choose?

I think eviction as you both are vulnerable. My dad is on dialysis and mum has had a lobectomy and I’m really worried about my dads exposure in the car and ward, if my mum was still working I’d be doubly worried. How are you feeling now ? X

Are you in the US? Is your Government providing any financial support or assurance?
