Another - is this too much of a risk thread?

Sorry, but I've had mixed responses on whether this would be ok.

My mum early 60s some health issues but not lung/heart related, lives alone and is really really struggling with everything going on at the moment (I know we all are) her mental health isn't great and I think in isolation she will go downhill fast.

She is working from home, as am I.

We live at opposite ends of a large park, spans over several miles.

I was thinking if we met a couple of times a week on lunch break in the park (as long as we felt well) walked 2m apart, no touching. Got some death air and exercise then back to our own homes. Is this an unacceptable risk? I know going out for exercise/walks are still ok?

I am very worried about the effects isolation would have on her. She very much relied on the company work etc brought her. I think this would be better than visiting at home.

Thoughts appreciated.

I think it’s low risk and better than her spending all her time alone. There was just a thread about talking through the kitchen window which could be an option or skype pub/cafe idea?

Bearbehind · 21/03/2020 13:18

I think that sounds OK

I’d go easy on the ‘death air’ though 😆

Littlebelina · 21/03/2020 13:21

Unfortunate typo there op but sounds fine to me

namemypuppyplz · 21/03/2020 13:32

That's fine. But yes, watch out for the death air

Honeyroar · 21/03/2020 13:38

My mum’s 79 and I’m planning on meeting her daily for a short walk or a chat in her garden at appropriate distance (assuming I’m not at work and haven’t been too near other people). She was housebound last year and got really depressed at the loneliness. I’m also thinking of a list of activities- finding YouTube videos of armchair aerobics she can do, providing adult colouring books, getting her to write a memory a day from her youth in a journal. Finding her new recipes to try.

ALifeDesign · 21/03/2020 13:40

Oh that was a bad typo!! Blush

Fresh air!! Get some fresh air!! I sounded like a prophet of doom!

Thank you all, I thought it seemed ok but I also don't want to take any unnecessary risks. I suppose it's just all about finding a new normal.

Sounds like a good idea to me, though as a PP said I'd go easy on the 'death air' Smile (your unfortunate typo gave me a much needed smile :))

Spied · 21/03/2020 13:57

I think I'd do this, yes.

My dm has said she'd like to meet me and DC in the park next weekHmm
I'm going to say no though as I'm worried DC ( and DM tbh) don't realise the true risk and they'll end up hugging and sharing a packet if sweets etc etc. Dm wasn't happy at all she wasn't 'allowed' to come and visit this week.

ifonly4 · 21/03/2020 14:00

Yes, I'd meet her. Just be careful to keep distance from others and not to touch gates etc.

ALifeDesign · 21/03/2020 14:36

Yes, I agree it will just be me and her, no DCs.

Good point about gates etc I'll be mindful of that.

I think we are all just doing the best we can in unusual and challenging circumstances.

Thanks everyone Thanks
