30 Hour Funding During Childcare Shutdown

Am I being unreasonable to think that those parents who are eligible to the 30 hour childcare funding for 3/4 year olds, the goverment should now pay that funding directly to them to compensate for the fact that many of these parents are now having to go without a wage for who knows how many months because they are unable to work due to childcare issues and not having a job that can be done at home. (Obviously keyworker parents who are still able to access nursery/childminder care during this time would continue on as normal with regards funding being paid to the provider) I think it is unfair that no consideration has been given to those parents who now find themselves in the position of not being paid but still technically fulltime employed so unable to access any state benefits to help tide them over like those who work under 16 hours/0 hour workers/temporary contracted staff etc.

No I think it’s better if they continue to pay it to the providers so they can continue to pay their staff. Much simpler to administrate and the same overall effect of allowing low-paid workers to continue to be paid.

YABU - id much rather my childminder/nursery kept receiving funding like that so they’re not forced to go out of business. Rather my children have somewhere to go back to when this is all over so I can get my life back together too!!

DS’s nursery have asked that we all apply for funding (didn’t previous accept the 39hrs as doesn’t cover costs). They will then use that income to try to avoid charging us full fees whilst nursery is shut.

Seems fair to me, I want the nursery to still be there in six months’ time when this dies down, and continuing to pay full fees will be pretty tough for most parents.

It's being paid to the settings to try and stop many of them going under so that people have childcare to go back to.

We get it but I'd rather the nursery gets it, it's a shit situation for everyone.

If we want nurseries to still exist when all this is over, they need to be funded. If we want nurseries to have staff, they need to be paid.
