This is still happening!
I saw this morning when I passed an Iceland. Mainly elderly people queuing outside the shop trolleys in hands waiting for opening time.

Shortly after I saw x2 ladies 65years plus leaving an Aldi, trolleys piled high taking the trolleys with them up the road!!

Non 2 metres apart.

Meanwhile those of us not retired with small children are shit scared of still being able to put food on the table. That's if we can get food!
We all have to isolate these guys don't give a fuck. Selfish.

Sorry having a rant.

Trouble is the greedy fuckers cleared the shelves with stock piling so people are having to go to the shop more often as they can’t get the supplies they need!

Old people as you described them need fucking food too you know not just you and your dc.

Maybe the people you saw don’t have someone to go shopping for them

Want to rant and moan then do it to the selfish fuckers who took everything, they ARE the reason so many people are out shopping because people are struggling to find basic supplies

Peanut55 · 21/03/2020 10:38

When will the panic buying stop? Surely people's cupboards will be filled soon ? They won't need to panic buy and people will go back to buying a weekly shop.

RedRed9 · 21/03/2020 10:57

They might be buying for someone else.

I saw a woman getting really frazzled and upset in the shops the other day. People were staring at her trolly and giving her dirty looks. Her daughter snapped at someone and told them it’s not for them; they were shopping for neighbours. They had three lists as well so it makes sense that that’s what they were doing.

Smithtylater · 21/03/2020 10:59

I went out early to go shopping. Went to costco but drove out as soon as i saw the queue....easily a few hundred people and this was an hour before opening!

Peanut55 · 21/03/2020 11:10

Alot of shops now have a limit on number of items you can buy. It will soon level out, it can't go on like this forever.

Alot of elderly are shopping for their neighbours. Let's not jump to judge.

Babyroobs · 21/03/2020 11:14

It's hard isn't it. I haven' been able to get any bread, milk or meat for days but also won't queue due to the risk ( vulnerable husband), so we are just managing on what we can forage at quieter times of the day.

Baaaahhhhh · 21/03/2020 11:21

It can't possibly go on forever - eventually everyone will have full cupboards, full fridges, full freezers....... I wish we were more like the Italians. They just go to their local small shops/supermarkets, one by one, or get it delivered by "a boy" on a motorino. They are still a society who shop daily/every other day, with fresh food, rather than frozen/long life. Even when you saw the queue's for larger supermarket shops, they only have small trolleys.

crustycrab · 21/03/2020 11:21

Iceland is opening for elderly and vulnerable customers only for their first hour so that's probably why they chose to go then

Baaaahhhhh · 21/03/2020 11:22

DH was in Majestic yesterday (stocking up on his essentials!), one chap was ordering over the phone for delivery, he placed an order for £8,000 Shock.

Hannah021 · 21/03/2020 11:28

Older ppl r the real vulnerable group and r the ones who can stockpile if they need to, cuz they should only be going out rarely.

Children r the least affected, even if u need to isolate. Your post is pouring of ignorance and selfishness if u think ur lower risk children are more important than the actual high risk group.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 21/03/2020 11:46

There have been pictures in the press of elderly people staring at empty shelves and empty aisles. Of course they are going to go out at 8 a.m. and queue to buy food. Do you want them to starve? As a PP stated, Iceland are opening for the over 70s for the first hour of shopping.

You may be "shit scared" of not being able to put food on the table ...and the elderly will be too. They may not have anyone to go out and get food for them. They may not have the resources to go from one supermarket to another in search of food.

Your needs do not trump theirs and vice versa. We all need food.

Peanut55 · 21/03/2020 12:00

@Hannah021 - children and babies may only have it mild BUT they still need formula, nappies, wipes, baby food all of which is pretty much wiped. This stresses parents out. I can't give my baby cow's milk as only 6mo and stopped breastfeeding at 10 weeks.

Hoppinggreen · 21/03/2020 12:02

I went to Lidl at 9.30, it was quieter than usual for a Saturday but reasonably well stocked
A staff member told me that people have been queuing outside from 7.30 for an 8am opening but by 9 the rush was over
Might be worth a go

Greendin · 21/03/2020 12:05

The elderly (everyone that gets a free flu jab on the NHS) are getting a letter on Monday telling them they must not go out so I think they've all assumed they're okay until then.

MsMiaWallace · 21/03/2020 12:25

@Hannah021.
Can I add that I'm pregnant. Last time I checked same vulnerable group.

Hannah021 · 21/03/2020 13:03

@Peanut55, we all need food honey, no one said let them die, and guess who's done that to u? Other selfish parents.

My point to OP is clear, its not her position to call elderly people selfish when they are high risk

SimplySteveRedux · 22/03/2020 09:12

In the light of overwhelming evidence and being asked not to do something, like panic buy, there's no telling these people, it's always "well yes, but".
