My BMI is 40 are they less likely to ventilate me?

If I did get it because I'm on the list of secondary issues?

I just read this somewhere and am terrified now :(

I've been surprisingly (for me), philosophical about it @FourTeaFallOut, I think I'd be much worse contemplating the treatments ahead to be honest.

GingersRum, depending on your diagnosis, you should still be accelerated up the queue, as I understand things, our hospital is still doing and will continue to do cancer surgery. I'd kind of hope that your local trust is following the same guidelines. Bunch of virtual flowers from meFlowers

Thank you @tiredmedic, the decision was made based on clinical need I guess. My tumour is low grade so there is a bit of time to delay which offsets the the risks of intubation at this time. I absolutely understand the decision but inevitably some of these decisions will prove to be wrong for the patient. I'm glad I don't have to make these decisions.I hope you get through the next few weeks safely.

Hi GR, well as soon as I think I'm safe, I will be reporting for duty in theatres....or as I rather suspect, ICU overflow as it's going to be known as. Not looking forward to it as my wife is now mentioning some symptoms. I'm keeping a brave and cheerful face but I'm bricking it inside worrying about her. She's 66 this summer and while in very good shape (phwoarr, not half ! Grin ) for her age, nonetheless 66 is 66. I won't actually go to work until I know she's going to be ok. The whole thread has been interesting and the bit about ventilation....well, unsurprisingly I do know a bit about it, it's my job. Some unkind remarks, some accurate ones. Glad to hear it's low grade, but you know what they say about the squeaky wheel getting all the grease. Push for treatment as soon as you can. Cake and Wine...and a virtual hug.

@ScarlettBlaize

You must realise that with a BMI of 40 you're at much higher risk of leaving your four kids without a parent regardless of coronavirus?

My aunt had a BMI of over 40 ever since I can remember, and I'm over 50. She is now 86 years old. She did lose weight at 78 or so, but was, and is, still obese. The only negative health issue she has is arthritis in her knees, no doubt exacerbated by her weight. But, on the other side of the family, my grandfather had the same arthritis issues, and he was always thin as a rail and walked 20 miles a day.
