Home deliveries

Going to be as quick with this as possible so I dont bore everyone.
I told my dad to prepare to buy long life foods, or add a few to his shopping, to ensure he would be fed for a few weeks, because I wasnt sure what was going on with this virus, and me and DD being medically vulnerable.
I have some lung issues and I'm very overweight- a normal chest infection lead to me coughing up blood for a further 9 months fairly recently. It's taken a long while to recover, asthma has recurrent flare ups and I cough up blood a lot so I'm very concerned)
So anyway, he didnt do it, and now hes texting and calling with his orders.
He cant see why I wont check in a few shops for him.
Feeling guilty about it, but I'm aware that everything is a risk.
Does anyone know where you can potentially get deliveries for small amounts of groceries please?
Deliveroo in our area doesnt deliver milk or bread.
Most supermarkets seem to have a weeks wait for delivery.
Any advice of where to shop would be very much appreciated, its causing quite a bit of worry right now, and I hope to avoid going out because the risk really is that if I contract CV I probably wont survive it.

His best bet would be to see if there’s a community Facebook page and post / look there to see if anyone can help. It may just be our area (Norfolk) but there’s lots of people on our local page offering to do food drops or collect medication for those who are vulnerable.
Failing that I would ring round local smaller shops individually and see if any of them would deliver. Many are struggling and would be happy to help. Don’t put yourself at risk.

I’ve seen a few people on FB offer on local groups to get things for isolating people. Also in our town local shops, restaurants, etc are doing a delivery service. Might be a bit more expensive but at least you won’t be putting yourself at risk/your Dad going out?
Rhapsodyinpurple · 21/03/2020 08:36
It is frustrating when they don't listen to advice and then expect you to solve their problems.
All I can suggest is getting a few things from a (hopefully quiet) corner shop and leaving them on his doorstep.
I'm in a high risk group too and have a similar dilemma with my dad.

Sorry that reads like I just left my dad to it to start with. I didnt. I took him shopping, and reminded him in the shop that he needed certain things like Milk powder or UHT milk, I pointed both of these things out, and part baked baguettes and rolls.
I even reminded him of times being uncertain

I would definitely ring local businesses and see if they can help. Also look on Amazon or Approved Foods for deliveries to him.

I would see what smaller independent shops are doing. It depends where you are, but I’ve heard that in my parents’ small town for example, the independent shops are clubbing together to make deliveries locally. Or there may be a community group doing this - see if the local council has any info on their website.

Our milkman delivers things like bread, juice, yogurt, cheese, eggs as well as just milk. Would that be an option?
ScouseMar · 21/03/2020 08:43
Check whether his local butchers, grocers, dairy etc are doing local deliveries. Ours are and it has been an absolute lifesaver as we're self isolating.
Apirateslifeforme · 21/03/2020 08:45
Thanks guys, I'll ask around the local businesses, just bloody frustrating.
SquashedFlyBiscuit · 21/03/2020 08:45
You absolutely musnt go out.
Please don't. You are high risk and must stay in.
There are other options there are facebook groups everywhere.
loveliesbleeding1 · 21/03/2020 08:47
Came on to say our local district council is offering help to people.Definitely worth a try.
Elouera · 21/03/2020 14:35
Nextdoor in our area have multiple offers of locals willing to do shops, walk the dog etc for isolated people. How many supplies does he have in? TBH- I'd make yourself less available and let him use/eat what he has for a few days. Not only will the shops be better supplied next week (hopefully) but it might make him realise its serious!
Apirateslifeforme · 21/03/2020 15:07
Thank you all the advice, I have called around, and there are a fair few places delivering and deliveroo does deliver essentials to him (hes that bit closer to certain shops)
I've given him details of how to order and I think I'm going to leave him to it. It sounds heartless I know, but he is in a less vulnerable category than I am and only in his 50s so if the worst comes to the worst, he may have to go to the shop five minutes away for his bits.
I have given him nitrite gloves as I know he wont wash his hands properly. There are enough to see him through any trips he may need out.
Apirateslifeforme · 21/03/2020 15:10
*nitrile
He does need to stop relying on me, because in a few days itll be him calling for me to collect his tobacco, and only a certain amount of time until he asks for me to get his medication again...hes refused to have the chemist deliver it as it's his excuse to leave home and get some exercise, but I've been collecting his medication for 4? Months now.
Thanks guys.
