Please don’t all flock to the same rural places for recreation now shops are shut

We live on a standard housing estate in a quite pretty rural area. At the end of our road is a lane which goes through the fields. In the last few years this lane has been turned into a cycle track. This was fine at first but as more and more people have got to know about it and it has been widely pushed by the council, it’s become busier and busier. Weekends had got bad enough that although I love my house, I’ve had times I’ve thought we need to move. That’s obviously not an option now.

Anyway, since the coronavirus outbreak I have never known it so busy, every day. Hundreds of cars turn up and double park all over the estate, large 4 x4s churn up all the grass verges, dog walkers bring their dogs 6 or 8 at a time, people park outside our house and let their dog poo and leave it - it’s a nightmare. It’s noisy and crowded and non stop from morning till evening. It has never been this bad.

It’s got to the point that the lane is like a busy city street in the day. You certainly couldn’t socially distance over there. There are hordes and hordes of people. All the people who can no longer go shopping are coming on a country jaunt.

DH and I are self isolating because I am quite unwell. However, we have 3 dogs who could easily be walked if the only people out were those who live here. DH could, under normal circumstances, go over there and barely see a soul. But there’s such a parade of constant people outside that he and the dogs are trapped in the house. He walks them round the estate on lead at 10pm at night when it’s dark and quiet.

So can I ask people, please think twice before flocking to all the rural places? I understand the need to get out but a walk round your own vicinity is much more considerate.

That's something I'm worried about.

For me, standard weekend activities are going for a country walk, so life won't change but it certainly will be detrimental if my peaceful walks are interrupted by crowds of people who never stop talking, shuffle around glued to their phones or are just there, instead of in the shopping centre away from me.

I always Park considerately by the way.

I can’t believe people are doing that - absolutely crazy! Even if you’re in the fresh air, all those people is complete madness. I really think a lot of people have no idea how serious this situation is

NemophilistRebel · 21/03/2020 07:51

I was worried about it myself

I only go to the woods during the midweek when schools are on as our local woods are flooded with families come the weekend or school holidays

Now everyone is off and can’t do anything else, the only thing these families are really allowed to do outside of their own house is going for a walk in fresh air

So I predict places being bank holiday busy for the most part.

The bigger places have pay in foot machines so they will be a breeding ground for virus and it will be near on impossible to keep to a 2m distance from people when there

I'm having this issue too.
We live rurally on a farm but there is a foot path just behind our house that takes you to the nearest village (about 2 miles away) and then you can walk up the hill and past a ruined castle. You barely see anyone on it normally it's a lovely quiet place to take my kids and the dogs but over the last week theres always folk walking past, some are even walking through my garden to get to the bin which is annoying but better then the alternative, theres litter been left all over the garden cos people are throwing packets at the closed wheelie bin. Theres dog shit all over the track I cant take my small children out there now as its like a mine field, we were in the garden yesterday and I noticed there was dog shit on the grass and it's not in the part of the garden my dogs get into.
One of my DC is in the high risk
Categories and I honestly thought we would be safe at home as we are so rural but now I'm feeling like we cant even use our garden.

It helps that it’s not just me!

Ayemama that sounds even worse, if anything. Don’t people think at all?

Bunnylady54 I think people are still going round with no idea at all of the seriousness. I’m in bed as I’m not well and I can hear scores of people outside, shouting, talking, parking cars - just constant traffic. It’s crazy.

It is an issue. Whilst I think the National Trust are doing a good thing. I am concerned that loads of people will be walking their dogs off leads etc. One of the reasons we joined National Trust was because wecwere fed up with walking locally and skidding through dog crap and dealing with people who didn't have their dogs on leads yet seemed unable to control them. Our 2 dogs are on leads..not because aggressive but they are still hit and miss re coming back!

Ayemama · 23/03/2020 10:39

Musicposy - I'm now the crazy lady with all the gates chained and locked and the bins have been moved to the furthest point of the garden so are bloody inconvenient for me but are not visible.
Probably over reacting but I dont care.
