Cheery, I know.
Pickpocketing is likely to reduce. What else? Daytime burglaries?
What’s going to increase? Any evidence from Italy and China?

DV incidents will sky rocket, also child abuse I suspect as families already struggling will be under increased pressure. I'm a social worker and not looking forward to what this new world brings. Sad

EvilEdna1 · 21/03/2020 07:28

Domestic abuse including murder will increase.

Petiolaris · 21/03/2020 07:32

Petty theft. Especially of allotments and gardens. Eggs and veg will be nicked. And there’ll be more men waiting in deserted places to attack women.

8by8 · 21/03/2020 07:37

Fewer pub fights.

More robberies of shops.

More domestic violence and child abuse.

Possibly more home invasion type burglaries.

Mabelface · 21/03/2020 07:40

I think we'll see looting once we're on full lock down

AhoyMrBeaver · 21/03/2020 07:41

Motoring offences will decrease. Burglary, because homes will be occupied more. Crimes associated with alcohol eg drunk and disorderly, affray, assault could decrease relieving pressure on police and A&E departments.

DV is the biggest worry for an increase. I think people being scammed will increase too - people become more gullible when they're stressed.

A guy was mugged for his kitchen roll in Hayward’s Heath yesterday, so more of that kind of thing maybe.

Chwil20 · 21/03/2020 07:45

More accidents in the home.

CallmeAngelina · 21/03/2020 07:50

What about drug dealing? How will the supply lines of cocaine from South America be affected?

willdoitinaminute · 21/03/2020 07:53

Unlikely to be burgled unless you’ve moved out to your second home.
Just realised that alcohol related crimes will decrease and possibly another reason for closing bars etc is to massively reduce A&E visits.
And without sporting activities A&Es are going to be much quieter at the weekends so will be able to deal with real emergencies.

TheMemoryLingers · 21/03/2020 08:00

Fraud will increase as a pp said.
I think there may be more vandalism as people take out their frustrations.
Possibly 'loitering' and public order offences from bored teenagers who are shut out of school.
Pirating/illegal downloads (whatever it's called nowadays) as people who are stuck at home seek ways to entertain themselves.
Crimes arising from neighbour disputes because people who wouldn't normally be at home are around, and making noise.

Less Drug smuggling?

DV/child abuse will increase i imagine..

Also i was thinking that less people out and about might make more lone women vulnerable to perverted sex offenders (women going to work/ walking their dog /going for a walk) . They might take advantage of the streets being empty.
