To ask people to think before attacking ALL bulk-buyers

Yesterday my cousin, who works in a care home, was verbally attacked and left in tears by several fellow customers at a supermarket. Yes, she was buying more than most, but it was for the residents and not for personal use. I can understand that people feel very fraught at the moment, but I beg you to please take a minute to consider those who need to buy essentials for the most vulnerable in our society.

Even after trying to explain the situation, my cousin was shot down as people didn’t believe her. This has left an already anxious lady feeling as though she doesn’t want to go out again right now, when she’s one of the people we need to still be going out to work. I’ve told her next time to put a sign on her trolley so people can see what she’s doing but I’m doubtful it would be believed anyway based on yesterday.

Please be kind to our care workers, we need them more than ever now.

Love all the blame being put on the care home and finding ways of indicating the employment of the shopper to justify what she was buying.

Lets all blame the victims here.

If stupid ignorant twats would stop overbuying then the shelves wouldn't be empty, the deliveries wouldn't be short and someone from a care home buying some extra supplies wouldn't raise an eyebrow.

CV doesn't give you the shits, you don't need more TP than usual. You should have already have been washing your hands so soap shouldn't have much extra demand.

I don't think the message is really getting to the twats to stop being twats. It makes me feel ashamed of my fellow humans.

@TheWordWomanIsTaken

It's been going on a lot longer than just the last decade. I'm old enough to have worked in the benefits system under Thatcher's government. IMO that's when it started - ' there's no such thing as society', privatisation of public services etc. And 12 or so years of labour government in there as well.

Might talking to a supervisor before or when you arrive help? They might be able to sort something out eg a sort of 'Click and Collect' where you send them a list and they have it ready.

@thegooglemum because you having pasta is the important thing about all of this. Some people are really missing the point of this thread

Shouldn't she be going to a cash and carry if she needs to buy in bulk?

You couldn't fit a carton of eggs in my bathroom cabinet

I'm astounded at the vitriol being aimed at care homes. I'm a manager of a care home and staff are having to go shopping because they can't get deliveries! It has nothing to do with how a care home is run and everything to do with the fact there is so little supply with people bulk buying? Do these people want vulnerable people to go hungry? Unbelievable.

Yes but surely they wouldn't buy in bulk from a regular supermarket Meta, even in these unusual circumstances? Would you not all have accounts at a cash and carry somewhere?

Supermarkets are often cheaper than cash & carry - it's why you get loads of traders with trolley fulls of bread or multi-pack beans or whatever.
