Until a vaccine comes out?
Anyone know what the plans are after a period of isolating?

there are no plans yet as we don't know enough.

what would be sensible: withdrawal from isolation should be managed slowly. a gradual lifting of restrictions with staggered end dates so that no more than 10% of the previous isolated start milling about and mixing at first, wait a week or 2 and add another 10%, slowly increasing. because people emerging from isolation will get ill and there will be a second wave, but if it is managed slowly it won't be a crisis.

of course that won't happen. I expect it will be totally chaotic and it will be obvious with hindsight that it was done completely wrong.

Depends on how many people are taking this seriously. How many have to die before people get it into their thick heads. Only go out if you absolutely have too. Medicine and food. Emergency appointments. At the moment it's going to be about September . I reckon the shit hasn't even hit the fan yet.

The shit isn't even in the same room as the fan yet, even in Ireland and we've twice as many cases per head of population as you. Things are going to get a lot worse.

There was an article on the BBC website asking the same question. A leading virologist told them that waiting for a vaccine couldn't even be called a strategy, it's so useless. But the UK CMO said the plan was to wait for a vaccine, and that 'science will find the answers'. So, the only plan there is is crap. Also, no-one has ever developed a vaccine for a coronavirus before.

Also, no-one has ever developed a vaccine for a coronavirus before.

Is that because they haven't been able to, or because they haven't needed to?

midgebabe · 21/03/2020 08:51

I think the nearest thing to this is the common cold.

If I get that right, it's been a cost / benefit thing. We don't have cold vaccines because there are just so many types of cold , hundreds .? so people have focussed on trying to develop a universal vaccine

In this case a single type vaccine would be justified !

I think the solution will be a combination of things

A vaccine
More medical facilities and equipment
Learning which drugs can be re purposes to help

They tried hard for SARS but the need for it disappeared so they never imfinished it.
