Covid
Doctor on YouTube with suspected cv19, his initial symptoms. Gastrointestinal disturbance
Roostersmum2 · 20/03/2020 21:50
I've been watching his videos on covid19 recently and unfortunately it appears he too is coming down with the virus. He's going to journal his recovery on Twitter.
What I think is worth sharing is that his initial symptoms (whilst yes do include a high fever) are not that widely recognised at the moment. Gastrointestinal disturbances / diarreah.
I have this at present, coupled with an awful metallic taste in my mouth that I can't shift.
I think there needs to be more recognition of non-textbook symptoms as prior to now I wouldn't have thought of the squits as reason enough to self isolate.
If you really search around you can find that it is a known symptom but not something the NHS is highlighting or warning about at the moment.

Yes, research has found that those without gastrointestinal symptoms were more likely to recover, and to recover more quickly.
OhioOhioOhio · 20/03/2020 21:53
Yes. Between my 3 kids they've had all of those symptoms. But how do I get it tested to find out if they've had it or they've just felt rubbish?
ivykaty44 · 20/03/2020 22:00
I had a virus back in January with a raging temperature & Diarrhea, I was sick for near on two weeks. I list all appetite & lost over half a stone. I had an initial gp visit who confirmed virus on chest and peak flow very low, very high temperature.
I’ve wondered if it was this virus but it was to early as the end of January in U.K. and no sore throat
Roostersmum2 · 20/03/2020 22:01
Oh that has frightened me Lougle, but thank you for the heads up.
Ohio the nhs aren't currently testing unless people deteriorate to the point of needing urgent care so the vast majority of us will never know for sure. I've heard you can buy private tests for around 375 pounds but no idea how to go about that and can't afford it anyway.

My DH has developed the metallic taste tonight on Day 8 of symptoms.
Curiousdad18 · 20/03/2020 22:25
There was a discussion on 5 live tonight where a doctor who tested positive for CV said she had metallic taste. She put it down to ulcers coming off.
Roostersmum2 · 20/03/2020 22:27
@KisforKoala I'll do a test to be on the safe side but I do think it's unlikely, I'm due my period within the next couple of days so I'll be able to rule it out.
I keep seeing both of these symptoms associated to cv and so that is has been my first assumption.
DH and I would like another but certainly not in the midst of a pandemic
@rookiemere how is he holding up? I hope he (and everybody else) is coping ok
Roostersmum2 · 20/03/2020 22:29
Curiousdad, yes I also saw a doctor with covid describing the same symptom. This was a couple of days ago but it may be the same one, just an updated interview
Goawayquickly · 20/03/2020 22:42
I was very unwell with what I assumed a heavy cold about a month ago, we joked it was Covid, I had a very upset stomach and was sick one night too. I did have a very runny nose, not usually associated with this virus but people are reporting different symptoms and perhaps it’s possible to have simultaneous viruses anyway.
It’s hard to know, I am prone to very bad chest infections which I didn’t have this time although on recovery I did have extremely mild pain in the lung area, just a light squeeze, whereas I’ve had pneumonia before which was much worse. I also had a weird headache which people have reported. I guess I’ll never know. I’m going to assume it wasn’t so I remain strict on hygiene but I’d feel terrible if I’d inadvertently passed it on.
Lollygaggles · 20/03/2020 22:46
I have had tummy upset, cramps and an awful metallic taste yesterday and today. This afternoon I had an very tight chest, a cough and mild sore throat for an hour or so. Now I'm symptom-free. I wish the antibodies test was available.
BunsyGirl · 20/03/2020 22:54
I had gastric problems about five weeks ago together with a slightly high temperature. I then got tonsillitis a week later, then a dry cough for a couple of days. At the same time, my asthma deteriorated and, three weeks later, has not recovered. A doctor listened to my chest a week ago and said it was clear but I am still suffering shortness of breath. I have never experienced anything like this as my asthma is usually only caused by allergies and, very occasionally a chest infection.
rookiemere · 20/03/2020 22:54
Roostersmum2 yeah he's doing ok. He had diarrhoea the day before his symptoms started as well. Also had had an all over rash a few time - telephone doctor reckoned he was allergic to the virus but couldn't say if it was Coronavirus or not
I'm on Day 3 now and am a bit wiped out but nothing worse so far.
PostNotInHaste · 20/03/2020 22:56
I had upset stomach, tight chest and wheezing last week for a day or so initially . Cough kicked in a bit later very intermittently then became what I’d call persistent about a week later. Have had mildly elevated temperature a few times, headache, weird throat and tight chest again plus occasional feelings of nausea and dizziness, fatigue and leg pain.
My DC was ill about a week after the Italy ski trip got back and I started 6 days after. DH is now similar. Bit scared about the link to worse outcome but trying to be rational about it.
Roostersmum2 · 20/03/2020 22:57
I think Rohin mentioned having a runny nose too goaway and I do know that it manifests differently in people so it's possible I guess.
lolly glad you're symptom free and I hope it stays that way. I'm literally praying I wake up feeling healthy tomorrow.
If it wasn't for this horrible metallic taste and body aches I would probably attribute part of how I feel to extreme anxiety (which I have and am on beta blockers for)
Roostersmum2 · 20/03/2020 23:05
Buttermilk, thank you for the graph. I'll save that and pass it on to any friends who become concerned.
Bunsy, don't quote me on this but I'm almost certain I've read a few accounts of people saying they got tonsillitis as a secondary infection because having coronavirus leaves you open to other nasties. I hope your breathing gets better soon, that is the part I'm most frightened of.
Rookie, glad DH is doing ok but sorry to hear you're feeling ropey. I read somewhere on here that a poster suspected their DC had coronavirus until they broke out in a rash. I hope they come across this and are able to read what the doctor said to your DH. I can't for the life of me remember who it was.
Post, im sorry you're also feeling shit and worried. Its hard not to when we see everything that is going on. I've had the leg pain myself and noticed it last week when out getting the shopping. I didn't pay it any thought until I began to develop these new symptoms
If this is CV then this is day 2 of noticeable symptoms for me, there have been red flags leading up but nothing that worried me
Goawayquickly · 20/03/2020 23:05
Roostermum2. I did ache I remember that, every bone. It was quite bad, probably what we’d describe as a ‘fluey cold’ meaning way more than a sniffle. I certainly felt very ill but didn’t have the really bad breathing I’d expect with Corona especially as someone prone to bad chests and I’m mildly asthmatic too. It was though very different to a regular bad cold, not the same at all.
Roostersmum2 · 20/03/2020 23:10
I have a pants immune system after a health complication last year and as a result of that I'm always picking up viruses and colds. I've gotten quite used to feeling rubbish every few months so I think I would cope ok with everything apart from the respiratory symptoms.
I don't think I've ever had flu itself though so I'm not sure what that feels like but I can tell it's awful from others accounts.
I was regretfully a heavy smoker for some time so I do have the concern about my lungs probably not being in the best shape
PostNotInHaste · 20/03/2020 23:19
I don’t feel too bad some of the time, it comes in waves and very different for me compared to the flu I have had in the past which was worse , well so far. very possible it isn’t it but I am very suspicious. We have someone else living with us and she is ill with cough and fever but adamant it is just a chest infection (she obviously has still been self isolating).
Roostersmum2 · 20/03/2020 23:33
The lack of confirmation is very frustrating isn't it. There will be people worrying they have a life threatening disease when in actuality they don't, and people who do have it assuming they don't and not taking necessary measures.
I'm getting a headache now. I'm on baclofen for acute myofascial TMD but I'm not taking that as its has the same anti inflammatory properties as ibuprofen and there appears to be some question as to whether ibuprofen is safe to take for coronavirus.
Babyroobs · 21/03/2020 00:00
I really wish they would start doing widespread testing, it would relieve so much anxiety. I have had a sore throat for about a week but then I often do, I had strange shooting pains in my back and arms and legs but they didn't last long. I've had a stuffy head and a slightly runny nose but haven't really thought much of it. I have a strong immune system, have never had flu in my life and the last time I had a bad cold was 2010. I guess I could have had it mildly and just not know without a test.
Lollygaggles · 21/03/2020 16:41
How is everyone feeling today? Any respite or worsening? I have the metallic taste intermittently and a sneezey sniffle. Nothing worse though.
