According to what ive read on nhs & gov websites i fall into the vulnerable category due to my bmi, websites say bmi over 40 & mines 51, im 41 years old, almost 42, and although im not diabetic, i do have pre diabetes & have the yearly flu jab

Im entitled to 12 weeks off, paid, but i cant decide wether i should, the main reason im in the category is due to my weight, but i have colleagues who have a higher bmi than me and some of them are not taking the 12 weeks off

But i was wondering if i should given the other factors? Would fee silly asking for the time off just because im overweight

No, I don't think you would be silly at all. You are considered to have an underlying health condition and need to follow government advice. Please take the time of and stay safe

Other than this work issue i have been following government advice re social distancing & although i work in retail, i dont have contact with the general public

It isn't social isolation - it's stringent social distancing. You don't need to double bag your rubbish etc like you would for isolation and can go out if essential for medicines and food and exercise. You absolutely should take the time off work, especially as you're paid. Look after yourself Thanks

I think i will speak to a manager this morning about it, they probably wont be happy if i choose to take the time off, the only reason im so torn is because i dont want to let people down and make things harder for my colleagues, which include my own husband and daughter

But on the other hand i would be following government advice, and if going off reduces the risk of me getting it thats a good thing, for myself as well as one less person for the nhs to potentially have to deal with, a colleague of mine is taking the time off for those reasons, he has the same health issues as me

As a HCW I ask you to please stay home.
Anyway we can prevent the people getting sick is worth it.

Wingedharpy · 21/03/2020 02:20

Stay home OP.
I would imagine your husband and daughter would find it even harder not to have you around at all.
There's a reason that folk with a BMI over 40 are on that list so, do your duty and stay home.
