DH is a SE builder. We have 4 dc, we get roughly £300 tax credits and £247 CHB per month.

We have no savings, work is already slowing stopping.

Can someone explain in a simple way what universal credit is?

Someone said if we claim that then we won’t get tax credits ever again. Is that right? And someone said I’ll need to apply for housing and council tax benefit? What is the amount based on? Like I know tax credits are based on the previous years earnings and how many DC you have.
Thanks

I think you can stay on tax credit by telling them that your income has changed and give an estimate for the new tax year from 6th April. They will use your predicted income instead of the one from 2019/20.
I'm not an account or anything, this is based on personal experience.
