Self employed UC/SSP- am I missing something???

I feel like I'm missing something after Rishi Sunak's speech. Does that mean that self employed people are entitled to SSP rates only?
I'm not really sure I understand how this works. Can all self employed people claim or do you actually have to be sick? I'm not sure how it will work for me and DH. Both self employed, both taken a massive hit from our income but we are probably clawing in a small percentage of what we usually do. Does this mean we get no help at all because we still have a small amount of income?
I was quite impressed overall but thought it was a poor show for self employed people Sad

Following as I’m having this worry too, I’m self employed and a single mum I can’t work as the schools are closed (Im not a key worker and my family are self isolating) and I’ve lost all my income. I don’t feel comfortable claiming universal credits as I’ll lose my tax credits.
Is universal credit an option for you?

AbigailFreemantle · 20/03/2020 18:33

Yes, I thought there was a massive gap for self employed people. Yes you can claim universal credit. Yes, the basic UC is increasing by £83 a month and (if you rent) housing benefit is also increasing. But saying self employed people are only able to claim SSP is taking the piss. £80 a week???? Ridiculous.

I don't even know, because we haven't lost all our income YET, probably just over half. I'm assuming that our clients will continue to drop out but I can't even begin to figure out how to come up with an income estimate to put on the form!

Sorry to hear you're in a similar boat Sad

@akmum18 join universal credit essentials on Facebook. You’ll be able to work out what you are entitled to. You might be better off claim UC. I was.

Thank you I have joined Flowers
Shredded I think they have stopped the earning threshold for UC so you should be entitled to something try the entitledto calculator with your current wages to test out the average, we should hear more next week 🤞
