According to the key workers list, DH qualifies as a key worker - but I still want to keep kids home

DH works in the medicine supply chain so is considered a key worker. I’m freelance and wfh anyway and have no work on at the moment for obvious reasons. Technically I could still send DCs into school, but I don’t want to. Would you?

The only thing I’m in two minds about is that it’s an opportunity for them to keep learning and also to keep the routine. I will do my best to home school then but it won’t be as good as school.

I’d rather they were just here with me but am I missing an opportunity for them to keep up their education and not slip behind so much. Does it even matter?

Might be overthinking it.

Right I’m obviously overthinking. Or rather, not thinking straight. It’s simple. I’ll just keep them home.

I’ve been okay up until now, but collecting them from school today for the last time for god knows how long was weirdly emotional and I think all the anxiety I’ve been bottling up has come to the surface.

I’m in a tizzy, as my nana would have said.

Yes I was in bits after seeing my class off today.

Pretty sure you only get a place if BOTH parents are key workers

They’ve clarified now that just one parent needs to be a key worker. Otherwise you’d get so many situations where nurses (for example) end up staying home to look after the kids because it makes more sense for them financially if their higher earning partner keeps working, rather than them.

I got a call that my dc got space in the school but I declined it. Yes, I did tell them dh is a nurse but only because I’m pregnant and I tend to have my babies early. I was just thinking of writing dh name down for just in case we can’t get other childcare in the near future. I did decline for now but said we might need it later on. School said ok and I’m keeping my dc for as long as I can. Dh is the key worker and I doubt he would get 4 week off he planned. In nhs if you have a premature baby then you can possibly get 2 weeks extra leave fully paid, alongside normal paternity leave. It would help immensely if they can help with childcare just in case we (his family & hospital) need it. That is all, I do hope I manage to keep this baby in till he is full term so no need for extra time off for dh. School said they can’t promise me anything if I decline the help now but I can try get them in after Easter, if I need it.
