Don't stand so close to me

Ventured out today for the first time in over a week (I work from home, my elderly mother lives with us, so trying to self-isolate as much as possible). Was pleasantly surprised to see ALDI quite well stocked with veg and bread, less pleasantly surprised to observe some people standing too close to those in front of them at the checkout for no reason (plenty of space), not looking where they were going while walking (hence upping the risk of bumping into someone), and in some cases seeming to behave as though none of this is going on. And all this just on a short walk from car to shop and back again. I felt quite vulnerable, and I'm not even (touch wood) in a part of the country that's been very heavily hit so far.

I don't want to sound like a curmudgeon and I know these are frightening times for everyone. Maybe there's a bit of denial going on, I dunno - I suspect it's more likely that it's easy to forget, when we're out and about and there are still a fair few people around, as there were today. (Biggish village, not a city centre or anything.) But still - you'd think people would be a little more mindful in the circumstances, surely? Is it just me who's noticed this?

Standing too close? Seriously? Its more risk touching items and surfaces. Dont go out and order online then.

My husband said this today (he's still working) he said so many people were still invading personal space. Said he spent so much of the day constantly stepping backwards... only to be repeatedly followed!

I agree with you OP!

I had the same experience yesterday, also in Aldi, with people getting too close in the checkout queue.

It was being managed much better in Tesco, where customers were being asked to stand behind a line on the floor.

Considering we've been asked to keep a 2 metre distance from others, though... it bothered me. I will definitely be mostly staying in and ordering online, but today needed to get stuff my last delivery hadn't been able to supply.

I had this dispute today in the pharmacist.

With addicts.

I think we should make the 2 metre exclusion zone a permanent thing. Nothing winds me up more than someone breathing down your neck in a queue. And for what? They don't get served any faster.
