Bloody Tescos delivery (light hearted)

WobblyAllOver · 20/03/2020 15:22

My loo rolls, tins of tomatoes, bread and tea bags turned up but no bloody alcohol free beer. Now I will have to drink the hard stuff Angry.

Yes I know there are serious shortages which is a real problem for lots of people but clearly the 3 limit on things is working in my tescos although stopping me order more than 3 cans of AF beer is a bit annoying when I can get 3 big boxes of alcoholic ones Hmm

Did you get any odd substitutions?

I once ordered a 'care package' for my sister who was having treatment that meant she couldn't go outside. We still laugh at the bars of chocolate ordered that were substituted by bags of oranges (and no, I didn't order terry chocolate oranges!)

WobblyAllOver · 20/03/2020 15:29

Not in this order as the subs were sensible. The driver did say I had done well with my subs and missing items compared to all his other deliveries.

In previous orders they often sub the AF beer for alcoholic ones. Whilst I am not teetotal so it doesn't bother me it does make me wonder why they never sub them for a different AF brand.

Oh and I would have been very annoyed if I had got oranges instead of chocolate Shock

Sainsbury's just e-mailed to say they'd cancelled our delivery. With 2-3 hours notice. We waited patiently all week not rushing out to buy stuff, knowing we had a delivery slot booked, and now this. Grrrr.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/03/2020 15:37

I did a Tesco order for MIL last week (earliest delivery of the main supermarkets) due next sunday. Im owndering if/what will arrive.

safariboot · 20/03/2020 15:39

Supermarkets need to handle cancelled deliveries a LOT better. It's been an issue for years with some that if they cancel you have to redo the order yourself, but now that issue has become a crisis. It's totally unacceptable that we can book a delivery in advance, wait many days, then basically be told to go back to the back of the queue.

WobblyAllOver · 20/03/2020 15:39

Oh that's pants oldwhyno. I have had that a couple of times in the many years I have used online delivery and it was annoying then but now it would be a real problem.

I have a couple of new deliveries booked for my elderly MIL and am praying they don't get cancelled.

My Malted Milk biscuits were missing off my tesco delivery as well as all the usual eggs, bread, bleach etc.
I am still put out about the biscuits.
(Who the fuck is hoarding malted milks?)

WobblyAllOver · 20/03/2020 16:34

I think biscuits are the next hoarding item. Who needs healthy food when you can munch on a packet of biscuits looks at our full biscuit tin

In Tesco yesterday all the own brand bourbons, custard creams, nice, digestives etc etc were gone! Shock So yes, people are hoarding biscuits!

fivesecondrule · 20/03/2020 16:50

Lol I've got 5 tins of shortbread I bought in M&S sale after Christmas. My DH was disgusted with me at the time..... He who lasts laugh I say!

Cohle · 20/03/2020 16:51

Does anyone know how the supermarkets are planning on identifying vulnerable shoppers for delivery priority, as Sainsburys is now planning to do? My DH is having chemo so we would dearly like to isolate as much as we can, but I'm not sure how they'll know he's ill from our shopping habits...

Apolloanddaphne · 20/03/2020 16:51

My DD couldn't get digestives today. She wanted them to make a banofee pie for my Mothers day dinner which she is making tomorrow as she is working on Sunday. She is going rogue with a mix of rich tea biscuits and some slightly old digestives she found in the back of the cupboard.

Teacaketotty · 20/03/2020 16:52

Just had my Tesco order delivered, no chicken, mince, peppers, broccoli, carrots or pasta ... we do have red wine though!

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 20/03/2020 16:52

You got tomatoes you are one very lucky person indeed 😃

Yes I think people are hoarding biscuits, can’t get a chocolate digestive or custard cream round here for love or money. Well the hoarders need something to eat when there frozen veg and pasta runs out don’t they

WobblyAllOver · 20/03/2020 16:55

I did notice the jammy dodgers were out of stock which was probably good as they never last the night they are delivered.

Mine just turned up. Missing baked beans, Peroni lager and plain flour.

I wanted some frozen broccoli, but it was out of stock so I order cauli instead - savoy cabbage is what turned up. So I got something frozen and green coloured in end I suppose. Grin

Not sure how long my 3 apples are going to last... this family gets through 10 a week usually.

WobblyAllOver · 20/03/2020 18:09

Ooo forgot to say that my bread flour did turn up and I have dough proofing as we speak. Had poor results recently with my bread so hoping it turns out better so trying the leaving it overnight in the fridge method.

Not sure how long my 3 apples are going to last... I think the 3 items is a pain for single items like that but I suspect to do it sensibly would take too long with all the items they stock.

Only about 1/3 of my order turned up this morning.

No milk, eggs, butter, bread, cabbage.

They didn't try to sub half of it even though I have substitute ticked for everything.

Toilet roll, tissues, tinned veg, frozen veg etc were already unavailable to order.

About another 10 items were sensible subs.

UnrulySalvia · 20/03/2020 18:18

We got none of the frozen or store cuboard stuff in our Iceland delivery this morning. We did get fresh veg and a multi pack of twix though, so could be worse.

MissyJane2 · 20/03/2020 18:33

Well at least you've got your toilet rolls.
You are lucky to have them. I can't get a single toilet roll anywhere here.
No shops have there there is none to be had.
Not having any beer is the least of your problems you got the bread and all the needed food.
I can't get nothing in my Tesco.
I go in the shop and the shelves are bare and it gets worse every day.
Just be thankful that you got your food.
I and a lot of people cannot get ours.
I think you are very lucky.

@missyjane2 you’re posting the same thing over and over on all these threads no matter what advice you’re given. You’re not going to starve to death.

WobblyAllOver · 20/03/2020 18:39

MissyJane2 did you miss the fact that I said I realise there are serious shortages which are a real problem for people.

This was a lighthearted thread because the news is pretty rubbish at the moment and it helps your mental health to lighten the mood in shit times.

The only biscuits left in our massive Tesco's yesterday were Garibaldis and Rhubarb and Custard Creams......

WobblyAllOver · 20/03/2020 18:48

We did get fresh veg and a multi pack of twix though, so could be worse.

They sounds like my kind of shopping basket because the veg equals out the chocolate for health Grin
