Anyone else been in total isolation this week?

I have serious health issues and am very high risk. Therefore we took the 3 kids out of school this week and have been in total isolation as have family all over the world and a good friend in China so were extra aware of the likely situation here.

We are finding it unbelievably hard. Anyone else managing it? Kids are 10 to 14 and all used to being out doing sports all the time. One of them does 3 clubs a day and all day at weekends. The eldest is used to total freedom and is now locked in for fear of him meeting a friend if he went for a walk. He already has medical condition and mental health issues and only copes with regular psychotherapy.

We were well prepared ie bought 2nd freezer at end of January and have set up home gym but we were only expecting it to last for a few weeks but not for the length of time likely now. The kids already think it has been weeks! Have the added fear of not getting much needed prescriptions as others are reporting problems with our drugs. Luckily managing to get food deliveries from bakers/milk man/fruit &veg box as all set up early as we isolated relatively early.

Any tips to get through it or anyone just want to share experiences as we don't know any other families in long term isolation just the people doing it for 2 weeks for illness.

Today is day 22 for us.
We took our child out of school due to his severe medical conditions.
I have a 17 year old, a 5 year old and a 3 year old.

To be honest, it's been ok so far. I'm more concerned about supermarket delivery stopping as I really don't want to physically go to the shop!

I haven't left the house since the 7th March but officially in quarantine since the 17th as I got the symptoms (first temperature, now also sore throat).
I plan on remaining in isolation until my baby decides to come out (I'm 38+4 weeks pregnant) as obviously I'll need to go to the hospital then.

To be honest, being at home doesn't feel any different than my normal life. I'm an introvert so was never too keen on socialising anyway. And I've worked from home for years (just started my maternity leave yesterday).

Books are my best friend. Also my back garden. And I have a fairly big house to look after, enough to keep me busy. Obviously when the baby comes I won't have time to be bored either Grin

Bookworm - good luck. Best place for you to be at home. Enjoy the peace pre baby!

Ofwaren - Well done for isolating so early. How is your 17 year old coping? My 14 year old wouldnt eat or speak yesterday and we haven't done a week yet. He normally only copes with regular psychotherapy at best of times. We seem to be managing food as getting local bakery/milk man etc so have not had a retailer online shop yet. However it is an incredibly expensive option. We don't plan to leave even for food so hope friends would help in worst case situation. I worry one of us has to leave isolation for some emergency or my 14 year old escapes hence preparing an isolation suite. Do you have a plan in case one of you has to leave?

Yes, we are self isolating on recommendation from our son's consultant, he is at risk due to having muscular dystrophy and being on long term steroids.

We have a 1 year old and a 5 year old. Homeschooling is going okay, but sometimes hard to manage when the 1 year old is clingy. We are going in the garden most days.

I bought a big Tesco delivery just as it was all starting to kick off, as I thought we would have to self isolate.... Sooo glad I did, people are shouting and swearing at each other in the supermarkets around here, apparently, the shelves are being stripped bear in the first hour or two. I am not a particularly timid person but having to go to Tesco right now would give me anxiety! A top-up shop is (hopefully) coming today.

We r not having much luck with our deliveries (local companies not supermarkets) actually providing what they promised. Hope you are more successful. They eat so much when all home all day.

Anyone else in isolation?

Me! In fact all of our house. Since Saturday when I came down with a fever and nasty sore throat, as did DC. Now I have cough, DC slowly on the mend. Really nasty illness whatever it is we have

Knocksomesense · 21/03/2020 17:25

We are on day 10 and not leaving the house for the foreseeable future.
I've managed to secure online shops for 3rd april and 11th april. My cousin dropped food off this week.
We're ok but with two preschoolers it's been interesting. I'm really low in mood today and very tired
