I think it would be helpful to know things like
People in hospital
People in ICU
Age groups
People and age groups recovered

So many people keep talking about carrying on as normal because either they are not in the at risk group or they are not in contact with these groups. And as long as they wash their hands then they will be fine.
I have probably been guilty of spending too much reassuring my children and not wanting to panic them but I think sitting them down with the facts could help. They are teens , I am not talking about tiny ones.

will any of the things you mentioned help your day to day life? No. Just do as instructed.

I’m not sure what message you want to send to your kids but of course you can’t carry one as usual. It’s pandemic, very serious situation but focusing too much on it might affect their mental health.
Also I don’t think you will get the statistics which shows real picture. The reasons: not everyone who stayed at home with symptoms got tested so we don’t know if it’s cold or COVID; some infected people don’t have symptoms at all; some people are infectious ( therefore dangerous for others) but don’t have symptoms yet. I was told that you have to multiply the number of reported cases in the UK by about 40 to get the actual number of people out there carrying the virus. As to ages and deaths... I strongly believe that it depends on health a lot. So 25 years old with severe asthma is in much more danger than 65 without. And the virus can have consequences for your health so why risk it? My DD had immune problem after mild viral infection a few years ago, she’s just recovered and I don’t want it to come back.
