Anyone waiting for dc’s to come home from uni?

Ds21 has been adamant he can’t come back from uni until Saturday, to work his last shift in the cafe he works in and then he’s coming back with his gf who is also going home, and he knows he then may not see her for a long time.

Dh thinks I’m daft letting him come home and should let him stay where he is and isolate himself. He is in the centre of a major city in a tiny room with a box-sized shower. All his mates have gone home now. Dh said he’d be fine as he’s young and healthy and we are more at risk of catching it now from him (DH is early 50’s and I think is a lot more worried than he’s letting on).

Am I being daft to let him come at this stage or is dh overreacting? I’d worry about ds’s mental health if I made him stay. My thinking is to pick him up, put him in the back of the car (il wear mask and gloves but god knows they’re not much use anyway) and then make him strip and shower when he gets home.

Thoughts please?

DD was adamant a couple of weeks ago, she wanted to be at home if this kicked off. I've been worried about her being home in time, and would have been worried sick if she'd been left at uni, not just due to CV19 but social isolation, ie not even family around.

There's always going to be a risk with any kind of social contact, but my priority would be having him back if that's where he wants to be - also you can be there for eachother if needed. Unless you and DH have been 100% isolating, it works both ways, one of you might already have it and could pass it to him.

My vote, let him come back.

My thinking is to pick him up, put him in the back of the car (il wear mask and gloves but god knows they’re not much use anyway) and then make him strip and shower when he gets home.

I'm not sure this will help much if he is infected/carrying the virus - though obviously if, during the day he'd touched a syrface etc with the virus on it, this would eradicate that.

But I would absolutely bring all my family close to isolate together if it wass possible for them to stay with me until we are out of this mess.

Let him come back.

Of course you're not being daft!
I'm waiting to collect DD on Sunday after her last shift. She was adamant she would sit it out at uni but thankfully had a last minute change of mind.
I'm not sure DH is as happy as I am to have her home, he's concerned he didn't buy enough loo rolls for her too. Also the house seems to be a whirlwind when she's home so we've all got kind of used to a new level of calm.
But as far as I'm concerned I want both my girls home and safe under the same roof.
It will be hard because they've got used to independence and freedom. My DD is feeling kind of angry at it all right now. They all had such plans for the summer term and had concerts and festivals booked.
She is also coming home because I promised her a hamster Grin

DS1 is coming home today. The Uni have shut everything down and told any students who can to move out of Halls forthwith, although are offering support to those who can't. I would rather have him home, and it lets the University concentrate resources on those who don't have a safe place to go to.

Mine are coming back tomorrow, one will go back in September for his final year and my other one DC is studying for a Masters and won’t be returning to uni. They are absolutely devastated to be end the uni year in March. We will be paying £1000 per month on uni houses that they won’t be living in.

DS1 is being picked up tomorrow. Have been speaking to him on the phone and he sounds fine but most people have left or leaving this weekend. If he got sick he would have no support there so absolutely yes we want him home. It's 50 50 in terms of him possibly infecting us or us infecting him. But what can you do as a parent? I'm not leaving him alone in student digs for the foreseeable 🙄.

Ours is going to her sisters until we’re out of isolation. Then I’ll fetch her back here.
She a bit upset at no grad ball, no graduation, no end of university parties and we’re a bit miffed at significant ongoing house costs.

She’s putting into perspective by being grateful she was in Bergamo last year, not this. She’s worried about friends and people in northern Italy more than her ball gown, luckily.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 20/03/2020 15:19

Yes, there’s no chance I’d leave him there realistically. I’m just a bit scared I suppose. I just want to teleport him here, now (after being put through a de-contamination unit!)

He going to drive us mad as he’s not the easiest person to have around but I’d rather that than let him be alone in a big city.

DS is staying at his uni . Most of his house are too so he’s not alone and apparently no cases in his area.
