Can I go for a run

user12678356 · 20/03/2020 14:29

Is it reasonable to go for a run? I won't be having any contact with anyone. Just a quick 20-30 minutes run around my village. Got back into running in November, I stopped using the gym/ treadmill two weeks ago and concerned I'll get lazy again.

Yes going for a run is absolutely fine, I’ve been going, it’s the only thing keeping me sane.

Weregoingonanadventure · 20/03/2020 14:31

We're not in lockdown so unless you're vulnerable or have symptoms then yes, you can go for a run. Just keep a distance from anyone else and dont touch stuff!

MadgeMidgerson · 20/03/2020 14:31

I have been doing this. I cross the road when I encounter people and I go at odd hours - have been running after dark. If you can do similar it should be fine, you aren’t in contact with anyone or touching anything.

ferretface · 20/03/2020 14:32

Even locked down countries are letting people out for solo exercise. Just maintain your distance.

Not true actually but yes, if you are not in a locked down country then you can.

Tigger001 · 20/03/2020 14:41

Yes it's fine, if you are on your own, don't come into contact with anyone or anything.

doomedbar · 20/03/2020 14:42

I have been. Surely it’s fine if you don’t come into contact with anyone?

Graft · 20/03/2020 14:44

I'm getting plenty of running in while I still can.

mamansnet · 20/03/2020 14:47

Here in France you CAN go for a run, even though we're under national lockdown. Government advice says stick to 1 to 2km from your house, but my area is saying 500m and police will turn you back if you go further. People are doing laps around the block.

PlywoodPlank · 20/03/2020 14:48

In locked down places, even running/walking/cycling wil be stopped after a while. But it depends where you live... if very rural, the it probably won't be an issue. In London? It will have to stop, but I expect it will take the local government time to realise that.

Lexilooo · 20/03/2020 14:49

It depends whether you are self isolating due to vulnerability or quarantining due to exposure/symptoms.

If you are in quarantine due to you or a member of your household being exposed the no. You stay in, no ifs or buts.

If you are just social distancing or self isolating for your own protection it is up to yoy.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 20/03/2020 14:55

OP if your isolating because you have symptoms - please take care as if you start to get worse there's a chance you may need medical assistance whilst out, therefore putting anyone who comes to your aid at risk of infection.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 20/03/2020 14:56

@mamansnet Yes, I read that about France but I'm in Italy and we're not allowed out for a run.

AdaFromYorkshire · 20/03/2020 14:57

Bear in mind what you would do in the unlikely event of an accident. A trip on a kerb needing stitches, a twisted ankle which needs an x-ray to be sure it's not broken. One happened to me, one happened to my DS. If you're happy not to bother the NHS then go ahead. I don't mean that unkindly, but they are rather busy just now.

MoltonSilver · 20/03/2020 15:00

We're not far off a lockdown where I am. One of the few things we can do to avoid cracking up is a solo run. Go ahead.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 20/03/2020 15:02

@AdaFromYorkshire Very true, also DIY. We are on total lockdown and a friend decided to do some DIY as he was off work - fell off a ladder and broke his pelvis, NOT what you want to do at the best of times but terrible timing now.

Spam88 · 20/03/2020 15:08

If you're social distancing then yes.

If your self-isolating then no, you can't leave your house.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 20/03/2020 15:10

Just be really careful everyone, I imagine this will all be much more frustrating with a broken bone or otter injury.

When you love running though it's bloody hard not to go Grin

megletthesecond · 20/03/2020 15:13

Yes. I think so. As long as it's easy somewhere to avoid people.
We're going to go for some bike rides in quiet areas. I'm keeping my eyes on how busy the estate is.

Tarttlet · 20/03/2020 15:17

@AdaFromYorkshire we can all minimise risk and potential pressure on the NHS but I hardly think going for a run is more dangerous than most things you can do in your home - like chopping vegetables!

PlywoodPlank · 20/03/2020 15:18

There's no running now (in urban areas at least) in Italy. I imagine the UK is a couple of weeks behind. And France maybe a week. Obviously your experience may vary!

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 20/03/2020 15:20

Don’t go licking anyone and your fine

Unless you are vulnerable or currently ill go for it just wash your hands once home

Oysterbabe · 20/03/2020 15:22

I plan to still do my Sunday morning long run while I can. I don't touch anyone or anything while doing it.

Graft · 20/03/2020 18:21

Walking downstairs is far more risky than going for a jog. Just saying.
