Schools potentially closed for key workers’ children.

So schools are closed except for key workers’ children.

My DD’s school has emailed to say that more than 50% of children who go there are staying on in the coming weeks/months as one or more of their parents is a key worker. They’ve also said they might not be able to stay open if staffing levels aren’t sufficient and to look into alternatives. I don’t think there are other alternatives at the moment - holiday clubs won’t be running, nurseries and childminders are under the same instructions as schools, grandparents are understandably in isolation.

So what else is there? I’m a key worker and theoretically DD1 and DD2 are ok with school and nursery but DS1 was supposed to be in the care of grandparents (not anymore) and I’m assuming I can no longer register him elsewhere with a nursery. DH is struggling to wfh as it is and his company aren’t supportive of the government’s views - he will have to sort out parental or other unpaid leave if it comes down to it and I will have to balance what work I can do. What about others though? A community childcare agreement has been suggested but that just sounds like regular childcare to me that has been closed in a formal capacity.

How is everyone finding and dealing with this?

Well if parents were happy to send them all to be childminded at school, this proposal is no different.

Sounds very sensible-maybe parents can organise a rota of volunteers to staff it when they’re not at work?
