Newborn immunisations

Is anyone else’s baby due immunisations? My six week check appt has been cancelled and GP surgery sent text saying all pre booked appts are cancelled. What is everyone doing regarding immunisations?

Baby immunisations should still be going ahead so I’d call and ask. When my little boy had his two days ago the nurse said immunisations are a priority otherwise there will be a wave of more dangerous illnesses later on. The Dr surgery was so empty it was eerie.

I’m still going for mine on Monday, wouldn’t rather avoid go surgery but the illnesses they vaccinate against are potentially deadly. My surgery is taking precautions..you have to buzz to be let in and they are screening everyone for symptoms in advance. It’s not ideal but don’t want her to catch any of the other things!

yadayadayesokay · 20/03/2020 09:39

Thank you both. I thought it’s essential that she have them but that they don’t fall under the ‘urgent’ category either. I’ll call my GP when the enquires line is open.

My 6 week check went ahead yesterday and I asked the GP about immunisations and she said it's really important to still have them so ours are going ahead as usual (as things stand at the moment anyway!)
The waiting room was so quiet, they've cancelled all appointments that don't absolutely have to go ahead to reduce social contacts

redroses86 · 20/03/2020 09:50

My one year old is now overdue her MMR. Can’t even get through to the doctors on the phone, have had nothing sent like usual immunisations.
I understand it’s low priority at the moment but I don’t want her to miss out for much longer.

Suniscomingout · 20/03/2020 14:42

If you are socially isolating there is very little risk that they will catch anything anyway, but do ask your surgery. My LO is due one next week and we haven't had a cancellation message.

TwoKidsStillStanding · 20/03/2020 14:42

Mine had his yesterday and the nurse was very clear that they are a priority and will continue.

I called about my sons 12 week injections and they said they're going ahead and made me an appointment. I'm kind of nervous about taking him in to the doctors, but he needs his jabs.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 20/03/2020 14:50

If you get desperate and can afford it @redroses86 you can get the MMR done privately at Superdrug (until/unless that closes).

My DS is due his second dose of chicken pox vaccine soon. I have moved it forward by a week and a half as I'm worried Superdrug and Boots might stop offering them (not based on any info, I'm just not sure what will happen).

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 20/03/2020 14:52

Oh actually ignore me, they only offer it privately to people over 18.

Spam88 · 20/03/2020 15:13

DS is due his 16 week ones in a fortnight, hoping they'll still go ahead. I think it's completely ridiculous that they've stopped them in some areas.
