Food shopping while self isolating

I'm assuming this would be okay? As long as you tried to distance yourself from other people as much as possible?

I realise it's not ideal but all the supermarkets delivery slots are fully booked for weeks but people need to eat and not everyone has someone who can bring food to them.

If you are self-isolating you absolutely cannot go to the shops. It defeats the point of self isolating. Of you are social distancing then yes I would say it's fine to go to the shop. Why are you self-isolating?

Oh please don't do this. I work in a shop. I have very high risk people in my family. It's next to impossible to distance yourself from anyone with how busy the shops are right now. Just get a friend or family member to bring you stuff, or join your local Facebook support group. There's hundreds of them

Self- ISOLATING means exactly that- NOT going to the shops!!! Do what the rest of us are doing and learn to adapt:

  • Look at what things you DO have in the pantry and avoid waste (many threads on here to help)
  • Ask a neighbour/friend to do your shopping and leave outside your door
  • Join 'Nextdoor' in your area. Multiple offers of help available to the shopping for you
  • Try home delivery from other supermarkets
  • Ring a local corner shop and see if they can deliver

We're self isolating and our neighbours dropped some food on our doorstep and we're paying them online so no contact between us. We're not going out at all

We're self isolating and not leaving the house for 14 days. At all. Apart from the back garden. From reports I'm reading the damage this can cause to anyone without perfect health is devastating. As pp said fb local groups will help surely?

How about amazon pantry? Looks like they don’t have the long wait times of the supermarket and says I could get £30 of groceries delivered for £3.99. Might be worth looking fo see if it’s in your area.

If you are self isolating because you are symptomatic or have been exposed, you must not leave your home.

You will have to get friend/neighbour/community volunteer tomdrop your shopping.

That is vital.

Those who are self isolating because they are in the highly vulnerable category also cannot get delibpvery slots, and are facing 12+ of it, nit just your 14 days.

There are lots of local individuals and groups who are helping. Try Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or your local place of worship or community centre, or post your location here. Someone's bound to help

I’ve wondered the same. I’m high risk so I’m self isolating. Plus I have elderly parents who are high risk so also self isolating. I’ve managed to get a delivery slot for next week and I’m ordering groceries to split with my parents. But I’m worried about the future - if we can’t get a slot then which of us risks their life to go out for food? (me I suppose, because I’m young enough to be offered an intensive care bed if I get sick)

Well said.

That is the all too likely cost of the exposed/symptomatic refusing to isolate and going into shops.

I was going to,say 'don't be a dock' but I don't think that even begins to cover it

@Petiolaris none of you risks it. Use virtual networks to find volunteers or businesses willing to deliver to you.
