Covid 19 - those minus an appendix

Just had a thought, I know it's commonly thought the appendix did not play a role but there is research that supports that it plays a part in immunity. I am without my appendix and just wondered if there had been any correlation for those who have not got theirs- are they more at risk of contracting covid?

I've not heard this. DD doesn't have an appendix though. She worked three racecourses over nine days, including Cheltenham, so will be keeping a close eye on her, as racegoers are now reporting symptoms

it's thought to possibly be a reservoir for gut bacteria and of course gut bacteria aids many, many things. I doubt this will affect immunity THAT much though

I don’t think it is the appendix that is to do with immunity to disease it is the spleen

Dp had his spleen removed because of cancer in 2018.

He is permanently on low dose antibiotics and has stronger ones he takes at the first sign of any infection

FGS - something else to worry about. I need to stay off these boards.

@ncagainforfeb I don't think you need to worry as there doesn't seem to be any increased risk judging from other's responses :)

@ifonly4 if your daughter has been around those with symptoms then she will need to self isolate for 14 days? If she has been in contact with those who have the virus then from my understanding the advice to her is to stay home and self isolate?
