Would you stock up on childrens’ clothes?

I’ve 2 primacy dc and their feet grow like crazy. I was thinking it’s been six months since they last had their feet measured, I was going to take them at Easter. I’m quite worried if we can’t go out for 18 months that they won’t have shoes! Well also clothes, but definitely shoes.
Think it’s worth getting a couple of pairs in larger sizes?

I mean I guess reading that back they won’t need shoes 😬
But even to go in the garden they will need something on their feet.

18 months?

GaaaaarlicBread · 20/03/2020 08:13

I think you’ll always be able to get shoes even if you ordered online . It’s more toiletries and food that are impossible . You’ll be fine with clothes and shoes x

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 20/03/2020 08:14

Well if you can't go out, they won't need shoes 🤷‍♀️

ffswhatnext · 20/03/2020 08:14

Barefoot in the back garden is amazing. Love it. Sorry I know doesn’t help

Paintforkitchen · 20/03/2020 08:14

There is no way we are going to be unable to go shopping for 18 months.

TARSCOUT · 20/03/2020 08:15

If you need MN advice on a couple

ffswhatnext · 20/03/2020 08:16

If we have to stay in for 18 months, these will be the last thing on your mind.

If it concerns you, you could use this time to learn how to make them.

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 20/03/2020 08:17

You can buy a foot measurer, and shoes, online.

Butterbear86 · 20/03/2020 08:18

Make them from what?! 😂
They’d need shoes in our garden, there’s brambles. Even six months they are likely to need shoes.

I'd just make sure you're ok for socks and just buy a couple of pairs of crocs type shoes. They'll be ample.

It's hard not to worry about such things, all sorts have crossed my mind and I'm in a lockdown country, day 6 today.

If I could go to tiger/the works of get a fuckton of art supplies. That's a metric fuckton, not imperial Grin

Cornettoninja · 20/03/2020 08:34

The same thought struck me today I have to admit. We’re meant to be finding out primary school allocations next month and I wondered if finding uniforms is going to be difficult now...

The longer this goes on the more solutions will pop up whether it’s online shopping or communities pooling resources.

Moomin8 · 20/03/2020 08:51

Great, let's find other things to stockpile so life becomes even more difficult (!)

ffswhatnext · 20/03/2020 08:56

Out of what?
Old clothing, bags etc.
If things go that bad where footwear and clothing isn’t available. You will either be wearing someone else’s old shoes, or making them.
They are possible to make. Won’t need to be hard wearing if your staying at home.

And in 18 months time. Chances are the bramble isn’t there cos you’ve slowly been ripping it out. Especially when you tried to buy something that’s not there cos someone has been panic buying.

MysteryFrog · 20/03/2020 08:57

Shoes won’t go anywhere, stockpiling is what is causing shortages.

lubeybooby · 20/03/2020 08:59

no

online retailers are in one of the best positions right now. you'll still be able to order plenty

BertieBotts · 20/03/2020 09:01

I don't know why people are laughing at you. I am in a country where "non-essential" shops are closed, I have a toddler who is quickly running through shoe sizes. I've had to order him some socks on amazon and hope they turn up/fit. I noticed the other day the elastic is going on a lot of my pants, so I could do with some new ones. No idea what size to buy online, in a shop I'd take a pair out of the packet and be able to hold them against my waist. DH commented he's in need of new shoes. I've moved from my winter boots to my shoes and realised that they aren't really in good condition any more and could do with another pair. (Neither of us are especially fashion conscious, so yes, we do only have one pair of shoes :o)

Friend needed to replace their washing machine recently. In a house with 2 under-5s, a washing machine is an essential (using a laundrette also quite risky in terms of contact, and probably having to take kids with her) But no, electrical appliances are not essentials, so the shops are closed. She managed to get one, but it was tricky. Her child also outgrew their current car seat and needed a new one. You can buy online, but it's recommended to get in store so that the fitting can be demonstrated.

However, even though non-essential shops are closed here, supermarkets are open. So in the UK at least, you'd be alright for children's clothing, shoes might not be the best quality but they will do (in fact the Asda "little walkers" toddler shoes are brilliant quality). Our supermarket clothing here isn't quite as nice. But I might be lucky and catch the shoe week in Aldi.

Not stockpiling as such, but yes, if your DC are on the cusp of needing new shoes I'd get them some sooner rather than later.

Things like uniform wouldn't worry me, because if everyone is in the same position, the school isn't likely to be bothered about it, but ordinary things like art supplies and looking at the fit of clothing is surprisingly annoying to be without!

Tulipstulips · 20/03/2020 09:02

I’ve actually just bought a pair of shoes for DS in the size up. At the moment we’re still allowed out for exercise, and even when we get totally locked down, we have a garden. I’m not sanguine about the post and delivery services for internet shopping continuing unchanged.

Crackerofdoom · 20/03/2020 09:05

I think that you will see online shops upping their game in the coming months to make it easier for you to get what you need and I am sure they won't miss any gap in the market

greathat · 20/03/2020 09:15

Yeah if the staff are able to get in. I imagine things will happen but much more slowly

Cornettoninja · 20/03/2020 09:19

I don’t know what Clark’s online are looking like (I think I heard they were closing their high street shops) but they sell foot measurers. Might be useful to have if it looks like online is the best option.
