Advice about child - I really don’t know

I’m annoyed at myself for feeling so unsure about this

My dd has developed a hoarse voice. She coughs a kind of pathetic non cough now and again. I mean, maybe 5-10 days through the whole day

Anyway she’s up today and saying her throats sore and her cough sounds a bit more “real” but still doesn’t do it often

Is this really enough to lockdown my whole house for 14days? I honestly don’t know

No fever or temp

Yes, I'm afraid so.

BuckingFrolics · 20/03/2020 06:29

There shouldn't be that much difference between what you are doing now anyway, and full lock down

It's not like "the old days" last week.

So minimise contact with the outside world in every way you can would be my advice. Good luck

Dh is going to be doubtful about having to tell his boss he won’t be in for 14 days and it makes me feel like I need to be 100% sure

Guidelines are a bit blurry

I guess I know what you guys will say Sad

The guidelines aren’t blurry at all, yiu all need to stay home.

VashtaNerada · 20/03/2020 06:51

Oh god this was me a week ago. And now I have it too. Do the 14 days. It’s crap, it feels ridiculous when children seem so unaffected. But you absolutely have to do it. I’m really worried now that DS & I infected people in the early stages before we took it seriously.

midnightstar66 · 20/03/2020 07:05

The guidelines aren't blurry, they are very clear. If anyone in a household has even one symptom entire household must isolate

Sassenach85 · 20/03/2020 07:05

We are basically home all day anyway trust me I am taking this seriously, I pulled dd out of school last week and we have been social distancing more than anyone else I know they all think I’m nuts

I guess that’s why I’m annoyed at myself as now I’m faced with a random cough in the house and even I feel unsure about it

I know I know

But I’m positive there are people everywhere who would dismiss it EVEN given the guidelines - I will self isolate I think I just had an “oh god” moment this morning Sad

Yes i agree lots of people will ignore which is why it's inevitable we'll end up with a lockdown situation.

Sassenach85 · 20/03/2020 07:11

This is the worry, I consider myself to be following the rules very closely and even I just had a wobble!

God help us

This was me nearly 2 weeks ago. I didn't have a temperature so I didn't self isolate or keep the family in, which was in line with the advice at the time. However, yesterday my daughter woke up with a stuffy nose and mild sore throat, and since last night has been coughing. No temperature, but it's been enough for me to keep us home. And she didn't go to school yesterday. The nhs advise is still to isolate with a temperature or a persistent cough but now I know that the symptoms aren't just limited to this and that children can get much milder versions. Looking back I should have stayed at home last week, but at the time I had a productive cough and occasional runny nose and presumed it didn't fit the profile. Chances are it is just a cold. But I wouldn't want to pass a cold onto somebody right now either.

winniesanderson · 20/03/2020 07:14

I know what you mean about second guessing it all. Yesterday with the sore throat I thought I'd been too cautious. Especially when she was bouncing off the walls after an hour and it meant she'll miss her last two days of school. It sounds simple but definitely isn't always.

Thank you for your replies Smile it’s such an uncertain time and as mummy I’m kind of the boss in here so decision making just got more serious lol

My dd has had a chesty cough for a few days, nothing else. We are staying home anyway but I keep wondering if this is it.
